Kiwanis raises money with recycling
ALPINE — The Kiwanis Club of Alpine is helping the
Ronald McDonald House of San Diego to raise money through a
recycling program. There are two methods which the club is
employing; collecting pull-tabs from aluminum cans, and
collecting Hotels and Motels bar soap and
shampoo/conditioners.
The money is used to help occupants of the House who
have sons and daughters in the The Rady Children’s Hospital
that are suffering from cancer and other diseases. The soap
and shampoo are also distributed to the occupants to help
them with their daily needs.

Empowerment and discovery
courses
ALPINE — The Alpine Church of Spiritual Living is
sponsoring two classes presented by Rev. Gay Beauregard.
This will be an eight-week journey of empowerment and
awakening to a more abundant life, beginning Sept. 18 thru
Nov. 1, at ACSL from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Free Discovery Class to be held on Saturday, Sept. 28
from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Alpine Church of Spiritual
Living. Come and learn what the Alpine Church of Spiritual
living teaches and discover if your heart and head lead you
to become a member.

Alpine blood drive
ALPINE — Alpine Family Medicine/Mountain Health and
Community Services is holding a blood drive on Tuesday,
Sept. 25 from 11:30 until 4:30 p.m.
The San Diego Blood Bank will have their bloodmobile in
the parking lot at 1620 Alpine Blvd. in the Regional Center.
Donors must bring a driver’s license or a photo ID when
donating and should eat 2-3 hours prior to their

Bible study class
ALPINE — The Parables of Jesus are the subject of the
new Bible study class to be offered at the Alpine Community
Church, starting, Wednesday, Sept. 26, in Fuller Hall. In
order to accommodate the schedules of busy people, there
will be a choice of times times with a morning class at
10:30 — 11:45 a.m. and an evening session from 7 — 7:45 p.m.
Teaching the classes will be the Reverend Tom Truscott,
the interim pastor of both the Community Church and Good
Shepherd of the Hills. Members of both congregations as well
as interested people from the community are invited to
attend.
Alpine/Viejas Days
ALPINE — The Annual Alpine Viejas Parade will be held
Saturday, Oct. 6 at 10:am down Alpine Boulevard.
The Alpine Stagecoach Lions Club, along with the
Signature Sponsor Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians, have
chosen the 150th Anniversary of the arrival of Overland Mail
in San Diego as this year’s parade theme.
Every one is welcomed to participate in the parade or
come watch. After the parade stay and vote for your Chili at
the Alpine Chili Festival.

6th annual Chili Cook-off
ALPINE — The Alpine Kiwanis Club is hosting the 6th
annual Chili Cook-off on Saturday, Oct. 6 from 11-3 p.m. in
the park at the Alpine Community Center.
There is always lots of chili to taste and some
creatively decorated booths to check out. This is a family
friendly event.

ALPINE — A Cowboy Barbecue sponsored by Christ our

APG Trails monthly hike
DESCANSO — This month’s hike, sponsored by the Alpine
Planning Group’s Trails Subcommittee, takes place in
Descanso on Monday, Sept. 24, at 7 a.m.
Hikers will walk along the old 80 highway, which
includes some concrete, some asphalt, and a little dirt. It
will be an out and back hike, approximate four miles.
Directions From Alpine, take I-8 east to the Japatul Road/Descanso
exit. At stop turn left (north). Go half of a mile to
Wildwood Glen Lane. Turn left. Go one mile and park at the
end of the cul-de-sac.

The great train robbery in
Campo
CAMPO — Come out and enjoy a little of the Wild West as
it used to be. The Great Train Robbery and Dinner Theater:
“Death rides the Stage” featuring the Back Country Players
will be at the Pacific Southwest Railway Museum in Campo.
While the event on Oct. 13 is completely sold out for this
year, a full dress rehearsal is being offered on Sept. 30.
Train departs promptly at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
Be prepared to guard your belongings and loved ones as
you face “The Hole in the Wall Gang.”
Tickets for the dress rehearsal are $20 per adult,
children 5-18 $10, and children under 5 are free. All

Representatives
ALPINE — On Thursday Oct. 4, from 6 to 9 p.m., the
ninth annual Evening with the Elected Representatives will
be held at Viejas DreamCatcher Lounge.
Master of Ceremonies will be Marc Bailey, News Anchor
for Fox 6. Tickets for dinner are $75.00 per person and
Sponsorship tables available ($600 for a table of 8) ($800
for a table of 8 which includes sitting with an Elected

Campo gears up to go Hog Wild
CAMPO — Campo Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2080 is
gearing up for is annual Hog Wild festivities scheduled for
Oct. 13. Watch for coming announcements.
There will be live music by Blue Dawg, food, drinks,
raffles, a bake sale, and much more. In the meantime don’t
forget their first Friday Rib dinners, and third Saturday
Steak Fry — profits always for a worthy cause.
Cancer support group formed
ALPINE — The American Cancer Society has established a
support group for cancer patients, survivors, caregivers and
family members of who live in Alpine and nearby communities.
Meetings will continue throughout the year on the third
Wednesday of each month.
Anyone who has been affected by cancer, either as a
patient or a family member, is invited to this group at 6:30
p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 17, at the Alpine Community Center,

Creekside Quiz Night
ALPINE — Creekside Early Learning Center will host its
annual Disney Quiz Night, on Friday, Oct. 19 from 5 – 8 p.m.
in the DreamCatcher Lounge at Viejas.
CELC’s PTA and staff host this adults-only event that
is made possible by the generosity of Viejas who provides
the venue, hors d’oeuvres, and more. Seating is available at
$15 per person or $100 for a table of eight.
