Border Patrol agent dies in the line of duty in 100+ degree weather  
Last Thursday evening, July 26, Border Patrol Agent Eric Cabral from the San Diego Sector Border Patrol, Boulevard Station, died in the line of duty. Agent Cabral, a 31-year-old San Diego native, died at a local hospital after aerial medical extraction from Jacumba.   

Neighborhoods for Kids keep foster children local  
A group of local educators and foster parents were honored last Thursday morning, at the quarterly all-staff meeting of the county’s Child Protective Services, East Region, workers. Alpine Elementary employees Corinne Lewis and Penny Garza and Jan Ironside-Durrill, as well as local foster parent Dan Weinberg were commended for their work with local foster children.
 

Temporary Grossmont Supe has a lot on his plate this summer
Temporary Grossmont Union High School Superintendent Donald G. Haught has a lot on his plate as summer time draws to a close and the opening of all eleven GUHSD high schools is looming.    

Local student graduates from USD
Local student, Erica Lyle, now residing in Lakeside, graduated from The University of San Diego at the end of May, earning a master’s degree in Special Education. Lyle is now a teacher at Helix Charter High School in La Mesa, Calif.  

Supes cut vector control assessment
The San Diego County Board of Supervisors voted 5-0, July 24, to reduce the vector and disease control benefit assessment base rate from $6.36 to $5.92. 
 
County addresses trails in the Back Country  
County to explore transfer of California Riding and Hiking Trail easements, and Supervisors authorize construction contract for Pacific Crest Trail staging area.
