opens Alpine High School in 2013
The funds from Proposition H are beginning to
see the bottom of the proverbial pot, but the public was willing
to replenish the construction dollars by pouring in more funds
with the passing of Prop U. This includes fulfilling the hopes
of eventually seeing an Alpine High School by 2013.
Hit and run driver had a history of drunk driving
The driver of a
truck that struck and killed Alpine resident, Edward Costa last
Tuesday evening was arrested two days later when he pulled into
the parking lot of a bar directly across the street from the
scene of the accident. According to prosecutors, Travis Weber
has a history of drunk driving convictions in California and New
York and told police that he had been drinking on the day of the
accident.
PC addresses growing demand for farmer’s markets
While most of the Zoning Ordinance changes
recommended for approval by the county’s Planning Commission
were minor revisions, a more prominent change would allow a
Certified Farmer’s Market to operate by right in
appropriately-zoned areas.
LaChappa and Vigil face attempted murder charges
Two Alpine men were ordered Dec. 3 to stand trial for
attempted murder of a couple whose home was repeatedly shot at
on the Viejas Indian Reservation.
MHCS brings early Christmas to Back Country families
Christmas came early this weekend in the Back Country.
Mountain Health & Community Services celebrated a 14-year
tradition of hosting a Holiday Santa Brunch in Jacumba and a
Christmas dinner in Campo. Santa Claus arrived right on schedule
at both events with Santa’s Workshop filled with toys.
Supes approve park fee increases
Fees for camping, boat rentals, group picnics, and
fishing at county parks will be increased in 2009 and future
years.

County is now the honorary mayor of Alpine for next year!
