Valentine dinner and dance
     ALPINE — The Alpine Community Center will host a Valentine’s Dinner/Dance on Friday, Feb. 15, from 6 to 10 p.m.
     Music for the evening will be provided by “Mojo.” Dinner will be served buffet style, chicken, potatoes au gratin, and dessert with a no-host bar. There will be a 50/50 drawing. Tickets available in advance at the community center, $20 advance purchase, $15 for members of the center. The tickets will be $25 at the door.

Republican women’s meeting
     ALPINE — The Mtn. Empire Republican Women, Federated will hold its Feb. 18 regular meeting at the Alpine Mobile Home Park, 2400 Alpine Blvd., in the Club House.
     A social will follow the meeting at 10:30 a.m. The meeting begins at 11 a.m. and welcomes Duncan D. Hunter, who is a candidate for the 52nd District for the U.S. Representatives and his wife, Margaret Hunter. Duncan recently returned from a two-year tour of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. Members are reminded to bring items for the Ronald McDonald House.

Powerlink EIR hearings
     MTN. EMPIRE — Several hearings will be coming up in the near future to allow residents to get more information and ask questions of specialists for the SDG&E Sunrise Powerlink project, after the release of the Draft Environmental Impact Report on Jan. 3.
     An Administrative Law Judge Public Participation Hearing will be held at MEHS on Monday, Feb. 25, at 6:30 p.m. This will be an opportunity for residents to go on legal record with their comments.

Back Country planning groups are looking for volunteers to help review the EIR and be better prepared for the workshops. Please contact Denise Morse at 889-9033 if you would like to volunteer.

The doctor is in
     ALPINE — Everyone is welcome to a “Meet & Greet” with Dr. Ryan McClinton of Alpine Chiropractic Center for a complementary brunch at the Alpine Community Center on Thursday, Feb. 28, at 11:30 a.m. to learn how to feel great and be healthier. He will be on hand for a question and answer session.

     ALPINE —Christ The King Episcopal Church will be holding a community parking lot sale on Saturday, March 1 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Afoot and Afield in Descanso
     DESCANSO — The Descanso Library will host a lecture and slide show by Jerry Schad, “Afoot and Afield, San Diego County,” on Thursday, Feb. 21 at 6 p.m.
     Shad is a professor of Physical Science and astronomy at San Diego’s Mesa College and currently chairs the Physical Sciences Department their. He has run or hiked many thousands of miles of distinct trails throughout California and Mexico He is the author of the popular guidebook, Afoot and Afield, San Diego County.

Shadow Hills casino night
     ALPINE — Shadow Hills Elementary School will be hosting a fund raising Casino Night on Friday, Feb. 22, from 5-8 p.m., at the Viejas Casino, Dream Catcher Lounge.
     A live band will follow at 9 p.m. This is a very important fundraiser to earn money to purchase a playground structure for students.
     Check-in is at 5 p.m. and gaming tables open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person, which includes hors d’oeuvres and $200 in funny money to play.

Alpine Woman’s Club Victorian Tea
     ALPINE — The 15th Annual Victorian Tea will be held at the Alpine Woman’s Club on Saturday, Feb 23. There is still room available at the 3 p.m. seating. The club is located at 2156 Alpine Blvd. in the historic Town Hall.
     This event is open to the public and Victorian dress is optional. Cost is $25 per person and proceeds will go towards their scholarship fund. Space is limited so please order your tickets early. You can call Michelle Albee at 722-1032 or Ann Hill at 445-4235.

Easter Egg hunt and bicycle rodeo
     CAMPO — It is time for the Campo VFW Post 2080 to host the annual Easter Egg Hunt and Bicycle Rodeo. “Easter” will come early for this event on Saturday, March 1
     The whole community is invited for this fun event with the Easter Egg Hunt beginning at noon and the Bicycle Rodeo starting at 1 p.m. Refreshments such as hot dogs, hamburgers and soda will be available, Raffles, and a Bake sale, too.
