ALPINE — Congratulations to Alpine’s Andrew Brown who has
been selected to represent San Diego, in this year’s 10-Under
National Tournament in Cooperstown, New York.
Brown will be joining a very prestigious group of San
Diego youth baseball players. Twelve of these players have gone
on to play professional baseball. The San Diego STARS are one of
the oldest and most successful baseball teams in the United
States.
Brown has been playing baseball since his debut in
T-ball at the age of five. It is not possible to join the San
Diego Stars; one must be “scouted.” Bill Cummings notified the
San Diego Stars of his talent and energetic skill and he was
accepted.
However, Andrew needs some help with the task of his
representation in New York. He has no major sponsor, and the
expense of this trip is bore solely by families. The expenses of
this upcoming event include a weeks lodging, airfare, food, and
equipment, which add up to over $1,000. This figure is just for
Andrew’s expenses. The family is currently trying to raise
$1,500 so that a parent may accompany Andrew to Cooperstown.
The deadline for funding this trip is June 1, 2008, and
the family would appreciate any donations that are made in
Andrew’s name. Donations for sponsorship can be made to: San
Diego Stars, 813 B Nantasket Ct. San Diego, CA 92109. Please
include Andrew Brown’s name on your sponsoring check.
