Chipper days
     ALPINE — The Greater Alpine Fire Safe Council is organizing chipper days in Alpine Heights, along Anderson Road and Anderson Truck Trail, and in the area of West Willows Road south of Interstate 8.
     Homeowners from Willows and Alpine Heights can attend an informational meeting at 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 4. Homeowners from the Anderson Road areas can attend a meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 8. Both meetings are at the USFS Alpine Station, at 3348 Alpine Blvd. The actual chipping will take place Jan. 15 through 17.

Alpine girls softball registration
     ALPINE — The Alpine Girls Softball Association will be holding registration for next season on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m., and Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
     All registrations will be held at Boulder Oaks Elementary School.
     Tryouts will be held on Saturday, Jan. 12. Please check the AGSA website for time slots, eteamz.active.com/alpineasa/. If you have any questions please contact Laura Galeazzi at 405-0638.

Alpine photo club meetings
     ALPINE — The Alpine Photography Club will be holding its next meeting on Tuesday, Jan 8 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Alpine Community Center. Please bring any interesting photos of your Christmas or interesting photos you have taken over the holiday period.
     The club meets the first and third Tuesday of each month. Anyone who is interested in photography with or without a camera is welcome to attend and contribute.

East County Health Fair
     ALPINE — The Alpine Chamber of Commerce Health Committee is seeking talented artists with creative minds for an Art Contest that focuses on health and healthy choices.
     Elementary, middle and sr. high school students and adults are asked to submit original artwork for review for use in an upcoming Wellness Fair, t-shirt logo, and Medical and Wellness Provider Pamphlets and Directories. Artwork can be in acrylic, watercolor, crayon, charcoal, colored pencil, photography, collage, or fabric.
     Awards for winning entries will be given at the “Art of Living Healthy” Wellness Fair on Jan. 26, 2008. Entries will be judged for their representation of the “living healthy” theme.

50th anniversary open house
     ALPINE — As part of its 50th anniversary, Alpine Lutheran Church is holding a Holiday Open House on Saturday, January 12, 2008, between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the church, 2040 Tavern Road, across the street from Joan Mac Queen Middle School.

Blood bank at Mountain Empire
     MTN. EMPIRE — The San Diego Blood Bank blood will accept blood donations at an open to the public blood drive hosted by Mountain Empire Jr. Sr. High School, 3305 Buckman Springs Rd., Pine Valley, Thursday, Jan. 17, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The blood drive will be held in the gym.
     Anyone who is at least 17 years old, in good health and weighs at least 110 pounds may be eligible to give blood. A good meal is recommended prior to donation.

Kiwanis youth Olympics
     ALPINE — The Kiwanis Club of Alpine will hold its annual Youth Olympics on Saturday, Jan. 19th, 2008 at Alpine Elementary School. The schedule for this event is: 8:30 a.m. — Registration, 9 a.m. — Opening ceremonies and competition begins, 10:30 a.m. — competition concludes, 10:30 to 11 a.m. — Magician performance, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. — Medal Presentation, conclusion of games.
     There will be 12 events: Basketball Dribble, Basketball Free Throw, Long Jump, 20-Meter Races, 40-Meter Races, 60-Meter Races, Sit Ups, Rope Skipping, Pull/Chin Ups, Soccer Ball Dribble, Softball Throw, Bicycle Gymkhana.
     Competition will be by age group divisions: 4/5/6, 7/8, 9/10, 11/12/13. Boys and Girls will compete separately. Awards will be given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for each event, each division, boys and girls.

Sunrise Powerlink EIR hearings
     MTN. EMPIRE — Two hearings to be held at Mountain Empire High School will discuss the Environmental Impact Report for the proposed SDG&E Sunrise Powerlink Project.
     Sunrise Powerlink Environmental Impact Report Workshops will be held on Thursday, Jan. 31, (one workshop in the afternoon and one workshop in the evening), times to be announced. The EIR workshops will be an opportunity to become informed about what is being proposed.
     An Administrative Law Judge Public Participation Hearing will be held on Monday, Feb. 25, 2008 (one session in the evening), time to be announced. This will be an opportunity for residents to go on legal record with their comments.
     Back Country planning groups are looking for volunteers to help review the EIR prior to the workshops so that we will be prepared for the workshops. Please contact Denise Morse at 889-9033 if you would like to volunteer.
