PINE VALLY — Marching to their own music, the back country enjoyed the Pine Valley Days Parade on July 26, at 9 a.m. They welcomed all to watch and enjoy marchers, cheerleaders, vintage cars, bands, clowns, the Space Shuttle Café, and for the first time this year the Weinermobile.
The Pine Valley Days Parade is often touted as the second largest parade in East County, next to the Mother Goose parade. With almost a hundred entrants in 6 different divisions it is easy to believe their boast. This year’s parade enjoyed perfect weather, a bright sunny day with a backdrop of the pure blue sky.
The first marchers, the Mountain Empires High School Red Hawk Cheer Squad, carried the banner followed by the four Japatul Valley Fire Trucks advertising their chipping event that was taking place later that day. Following the JVFD was Ben Tullock Fire Trucks, Arnold’s Firetruck and then the Little Firetruck was filled to the brim with Rocket Cheerleaders who were happily flinging candy out to the admiring crowd.
Grand Marshall, Jerry Miller was hailed in a vintage truck, followed by the amazing Space Shuttle Café. All divisions appearing in this parade had beautiful displays, such as the Model “A” Restorers Club of San Diego.
Of course their was a grand and royal showing of the Miss Alpine 2008, Lauren Watson, Miss Teen Alpine Jackie Felix, and Jr. Miss Alpine, Haley Ford.
Something that hasn’t been seen by this reporter yet was the Harley Hearse. This is a hearse carriage (or trailer) drawn by a Harley Davidson motortrike. What a display!
Another stunner was the “Doing Buffet Proud” Volcano with its own native dancer complete with mask and grass skirt.
So many entrants and each one a sight, but the one that made the people of Pine Valley most proud, or at least Corrine Lewis, was the famous Weinermobile, who distributed Weinermobile whistles.
After the parade, everyone gathered at the Pine Valley Park to enjoy vendors, such as Minerva Manss, Sandra Hayen, Buzz E. Bee Face Painting, and Pine Valley Crafts who were selling art, clothing, crafts and such, as well as an old fashioned Pie Eating Contest and a rock climbing wall.
Later, on Saturday evening, a delicious b-b-q was available while listening to the tunes of Southbound Jonny. It can be said that this year, Pine Valley reached new limits with their annual tradition.
