Citizens are urged to register to vote
ALPINE —
All voting-age residents are
urged to register to vote. Enthusiasm is already high for the
Nov. 4 election. Registering to vote is the first step in
becoming involved in our political process, and it is free.
Citizens can register in California if they are a
California resident, a United States citizen, at least 18 years
of age on or before an election, and not in prison or on parole
for a felony conviction. If a voter’s address or name has
changed, or one wishes to change party affiliation,
re-registering is required. A driver’s license or ID card with
the voter’s name and current address is required.
To vote on Nov. 4, registration must be received by the
Registrar’s office by Oct. 20. Voters can check on their
registration status on the Registrar’s website at
www.sdvote.com or call
the Registrar’s office at (858) 565-5800 or 1-800-696-0136.
Registration is easy: Here are three ways you can
register to vote:
Option 1 — Complete the
California Secretary of State online registration form. After
you complete the online portion of the process a completed form
will be mailed to you for your signature. Check online at
https://ovr.sos.ca.gov/votereg/OnlineVoterReg.
Option 2 — Postcard
Registration. Postcards are available for pickup at the
following locations: ROV Main Office, City Clerks’ Offices,
Department of Motor Vehicles, U.S. Postal Services, Public
Libraries
Option 3 — Have a postcard
mailed directly to you. Call the ROV Main Office at (858)
565-5800, request a registration postcard. Once received, fill
out and return back to the ROV.
Voting is a privilege of citizenship in the United
States. Voters are encouraged to become informed about the
political process and how it affects their lives.
