up in Grossmont district
Grossmont Union High School board of trustees
called their meeting to order on Thursday, Sept. 11; inviting
President Larry Urdahl’s daughter, Kimberly, who has recently
joined the U.S. Army, to lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Also,
Urdahl called for an honored moment of silence dedicated to the
thousands who lost their lives in the historic 9-11 tragedy in
2001.
Alpine ex-deputy gets 15 years in prison for shooting wife
A former sheriff’s deputy who killed his wife at
his Alpine home was sentenced Sept. 10 to 15 years in state
prison, which the judge says was the maximum term, and not 21
years as another judge had indicated was the maximum.
Annual ALPS awards presented to Alpine’s best
Many of the people, organizations and businesses who
help make Alpine a thriving community were recognized for their
achievements last week. They were applauded — sometimes
repeatedly — as they received honors on Sept. 11 at the 14th
Annual Alpine Leadership & Public Service Awards, held in the
Viejas Casino DreamCatcher Lounge.
Alpine developers delay case to 2009
The fraud case against three Alpine developers and one
former employee got delayed again, this time to March 2009,
because one attorney had to replace his retained attorney with a
public defender.
11 candidates fill the field in Campo-Lake Morena election
In the quickly
growing Back Country 11 candidates have thrown their hats in the
ring, vying for five seats on the Campo-Lake Morena Planning
Group board.
Local church takes to the streets
It started with a few parishioners talking amongst
themselves about how the church can give back to its community.
Soon the entire congregation was talking, and planning, for the
Bethel Christian Assembly’s community outreach.
Lind named Designer of the Year
The Basket Connection National Gift Basket Convention
and Trade Show named Amy Lind – the Owner and Creative Director
for The Basket Corner, in Alpine – the 2008 Designer of the
Year.
New tribal gaming commissioner
The Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians announced Tuesday,
the appointment of Tracy Burris as Tribal Gaming Commissioner.
