Football and Cheer Registration
     ALPINE — Registration for Alpine Pop Warner Football and cheer is scheduled for to start for the 2009 season. There will be three dates for registration and all three will take place at Alpine elementary School, 1850 Alpine Blvd.
     The dates are May 9 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be an evening registration on May 7 from 5 to 8 p.m. For more information please visit the web site at www.alpinefootball.com.

Student art exhibition
     EL CAJON — The Grossmont Union High School District (GUHSD) art students are hosting the 23rd annual Creative Visions student art exhibition.
     The event officially kicks off with an awards ceremony on Friday, May 1, at 5:30 p.m. Students will receive cash awards for artwork.
     The exhibit will be held at Westfield Shoppingtown — Parkway Plaza, in front of JC Penny, 329 Parkway Plaza, El Cajon.

Western Days Carnival
     ALPINE — Boulder Oaks Elementary School is hosting its annual Western Days Carnival on Friday, May 8 from 5 to 8:30 p.m., at the school.
     There will be food, game booths, a silent auction, cake walk, opportunity drawings, rock wall, quad pod jumper, music, entertainment… and more.

Merry Mad Hatter Tea
    
ALPINE — The delightful “Annual Mad Hatter Tea — I’m Late, I’m Late for a Very Important Date” will be fun for everyone on Saturday, May 9, in Alpine.
     Presented by Soroptimist International of Alpine, the celebration of the merry “Alice in Wonderland” tea party raises money to help women and girls in need. A hat parade, silent auctions, and a 50-50-opportunity drawing highlight the informal event.
     The partying begins at 11:30 a.m. at Fuller Hall to the rear of the Alpine Community Church at 2225 W. Victoria Drive in Alpine. The festivities will be over by 3 p.m.
     Delicious scones with curd and cream, tasty finger sandwiches, wonderful desserts, fresh grapes and soothing tea are included in the ticket price of $40 per person.

DC trip meeting
    
ALPINE — On Thursday, May 14 at 6:30 p.m. at the Alpine Elementary School auditorium, a registration meeting and power point presentation will be held by Holt Travel & Tours to share information with Joan Mac Queen and other interested 8th grade students and parents about next year’s annual educational East Coast tour.
     The historical and educational destinations on this incredible itinerary are Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Gettysburg, and New York City. Fundraising opportunities will also be discussed. This 8-day trip will take place during Spring Break on March 27 through April 3.

Kids’ health fair
    
ALPINE — Alpine Family Medicine (Mountain Health & Community Services) will host Kids’ Health Fair on Saturday, May 16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Alpine Regional Center located at 1620 Alpine Blvd.
     The event is free of charge and will feature health screenings, games and prizes, music, face painting, arts and crafts, and an opportunity to meet with pediatrician, Dr. Shannon Cheffet. Children of all ages are invited.

CPR class
    
ALPINE —The Alpine Fire Protection District will offer Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) classes open to the public. The first class is scheduled for Saturday May 16 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the fire station at 1364 Tavern Road.
     The course is free however there is a $5 charge for the course completion card. Class size is limited to 20 students please call 445-2635 to reserve a spot in the class or visit www.alpinefire.org for more information.

Woman’s Club scholarship
    
ALPINE — Each year, the Alpine Woman’s Club gives away scholarships to deserving Alpine seniors. This year they will give three $1,000 scholarships to deserving students.
     Applications for scholarships must be received by May 31 in order to be considered for the award ceremony on June 16. This deadline cannot be extended. You may obtain a Word document to facilitate completion of the application by sending an e-mail to info@alpinewomansclub.org.
     To date the Alpine Woman’s Club has given away more than 175 scholarships starting in 1950, totaling more than $80,000. Should you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the Foundation at 445-5247 or Margaret Smith 659-0050.

18th annual Vintage Alpine
     ALPINE — Each spring the Alpine Kiwanis sponsors events that raise over $40,000 for youth projects in the Alpine community, and Children’s Hospital.
     The 18th Annual Vintage Alpine wine tasting and food event on Sunday, May 3, at Summers Past Farms at 15602 Olde Highway 80 in East County. Tickets can be reserved early by going to the Alpine Kiwanis web site and click on Vintage Alpine.

Relay for life talent contest
    
ALPINE — The relay for life begins Saturday, June 27. Organizers are looking for anyone with any talent; singing, dancing, magic, or whatever it is to come out and perform. The talent contest will start at 10 p.m.
     If you are under 18 years old we would love for you to come out, but you have to be accompanied by an adult.

Wild in the Country
    
ALPINE —On Saturday, May 9, Lions Tigers & Bears invites the public to get a close up look at their 93-acre Alpine ranch and the exotic Big Cats who make their home there. It’s the biggest ever, 4th Annual Wild in the Country Fundraiser, benefiting San Diego’s only Big Cat Rescue.
     Adults and children are welcome to come out and enjoy the day, with catered BBQ, fun and entertainment for all. The cost is only $80 per adult and $45 per child if purchased before April 29. Adult tickets will be $95 if purchased after that date.

Photo San Diego
    
EL CAJON — The Grossmont College Photo Club will host “Photo San Diego,” an event featuring buying, swapping and selling of used and new photo equipment, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, at the college’s Digital Arts Building, near Parking Lot #1.
     The event is open to the public. Admission is free. Local residents are invited to bring their old photo equipment to swap or sell.

Spring gathering
    
ALPINE — Southern Indian Health Council, Inc. is hosting the third annual Spring Gathering at its facility 4058 Willows Rd. on Saturday, May 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
