Alpine demands answers regarding SRPL undergrounding
     Disappointed by the lack of answers at the last Alpine Advisory Council meeting, local representatives and community leaders met at the Alpine’s Woman Club on Dec. 15 demanding answers — answers to questions regarding the proposed undergrounding of the Sunrise Powerlink (SRPL) along Alpine Boulevard.  

GUHSD moves ahead with purchase of remaining Lazy A site
     The Dec. 10 Grossmont Union High School District’s board meeting was a lengthy compilation of reports and reviews on project progress and budget woes. Board members were updated on the progress on the Bond projects, along with a review of how the current Program Manager Gafcon/Harris is performing. However, the GEA, Grossmont Educators Association, approached the board with significant concerns.
 

PC recommends policy on mitigation of county-owned lands
     The county’s Planning Commission has recommended approval of a proposed Board of Supervisors policy regarding mitigation of county-owned land managed by the county’s Department of Parks and Recreation.   

Border Log: U.S. Border Patrol 2009 accomplishments for San Diego Sector
United States Border Patrol agents of San Diego Sector have demonstrated significant law enforcement achievements along the 60-linear miles of border shared with Mexico during fiscal year 2009. The results are not being celebrated as the cost was high with the July 23, 2009, senseless murder of Border Patrol Agent Robert W. Rosas.

Local first grader takes a step toward a better world
Local Alpine first-grader, Jacob Saflar, did his part to help make the world a better place, collecting more than 200 pairs of shoes for needy families. 
 
Anthony Miller found guilty  
A jury on Dec. 18 convicted Anthony James Miller, of Alpine, of two counts of first-degree murder in the 2006 deaths of two employees at an El Cajon liquor store. His co-defendant was the gunman and received the death penalty in a separate trial.

County of San Diego plugs in to Statewide solar financing effort 
San Diego County moved a giant step closer toward helping unincorporated area residents more easily afford rooftop solar electric systems and other energy efficiency projects.

Kiwanians hit the screen for blood bank
Are our Alpine Kiwanians headed for Hollywood? On Tuesday, Dec. 8 camera crews visited Alpine to film a new commercial for the San Diego Blood Bank. Alpine Kiwanis has been busy the past few years organizing quarterly blood drives.

Lightning storm damages Back Country wind turbine
Overnight on Dec. 7, a severe lightning storm struck the Campo reservation, damaging at least two wind turbines on site. One turbine’s blade was split and a second turbine lost a portion of a blade.

Alpine Kiwanians ring bells for charity
