Residents discuss Alpine high school site choices  
     About 78 people showed up for the Grossmont Union High School District informational meeting that was held last Wednesday, Feb. 4, to discuss and acquire input from concerned citizens about the planned 12th high school project. The statistics have been available now from the Draft Environmental Impact Report for about a month, and time is running out on the public’s ability to comment.  

Sunrise Powerlink challenged in Supreme Court     
     On Jan. 25, the Center for Biological Diversity petitioned the California Supreme Court to review the recently approved Sunrise Transmission Project, one of the largest and most controversial transmission projects in California's history, which was approved last month by the California Public Utilities Commission.
 

Weber trial delayed due to new counsel  
     A judge set a March 24 trial date for the motorist accused of running over Edward Costa as he was riding his bicycle on Alpine Boulevard, but the date will change to later this year after the motorist got a retained attorney. Travis Chris Weber, 44, pleaded not guilty on Feb. 4 to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.   

New station is years in the making  
     More than 100 local residents and neighbors gathered at the new building at 551 Harbison Canyon Road last Saturday, Feb. 7, for the long-awaited grand reopening of the Harbison Canyon Fire Station. The previous fire station – a two-story, wood-frame building, built at least 60 years ago — was among more than 300 structures that burned in the tiny community in 2003 during the Cedar Fire.  

Boulevard sex offender arrested
An 81-year-old sex offender who was released to a Boulevard house in Oct., 2008, was arrested last week after he handed a note to a teen-age bagger at a supermarket in El Centro.

BLM approves Sunrise Powerlink
Last month, the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) signed a Record of Decision (ROD) approving the Southern Route Alternative for the Sunrise Powerlink Transmission Project proposed by San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) designed to help met state renewable energy goals.
