District 51 Congressman Bob Filner and District 52
Congressman Duncan Hunter took up seats and responsibilities on
various national committees recently.
Bob
Filner (D-CA)
The Democratic Caucus of the House Transportation and
infrastructure Committee met to select subcommittees for the
111th Congress. Congressman Bob Filner is pleased to announce
that he will serve on four of the subcommittees: Aviation;
Highways and Transit; Railroads; and Water Resources and the
Environment.
“During the 111th Congress, although my prime
responsibility is Chairman of the Veterans Affairs Committee,
the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee will deal with
many important issues that directly affect people’s lives every
day,” stated Filner.
“Serving on these four subcommittees will enable me to
delve into important issues facing San Diego and Imperial
Counties, such as the upcoming highway bill reauthorization, the
next Water Resources Development Act, rail infrastructure and
freight issues, and the Federal Aviation Administration
reauthorization. I am eager to get to work!”
Duncan Hunter (R-CA)
Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-CA), who was recently
named to the House Armed Services and Education and Labor
Committees, received Subcommittee assignments for both panels.
Hunter has been named to the House Armed Services Committee’s
Air and Land Forces Subcommittee, and the Subcommittee on
Seapower and Expeditionary Forces. Hunter will also serve on the
Education and Labor Committee’s Subcommittee on Early Childhood
Education and the Subcommittee on Health, Employment, Labor and
Pensions (HELP).
“It is a privilege to join the House Armed Services and
Education and Labor Committees,” said Congressman Hunter. “Each
House Committee has a unique and equally important
responsibility. The House Education and Labor Committee is at
the center of strengthening our workforce and preparing our
children for the future, while the House Armed Services
Committee sets our national security policy and represents the
interests of our fighting men and women. Both Committees will be
at the forefront of the national debate over the coming years,
and I welcome the opportunity to be directly involved in their
respective efforts.
“At a time when America’s military men and women are
fighting terrorism on the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan,
I intend to use my experiences and insight as a combat Marine to
ensure their interests are always put first and they continue
receiving the best resources available. I look forward to
serving on both the Air and Land Forces, and Seapower and
Expeditionary Forces Subcommittees as we work to ensure our
military remains the most advanced fighting force in the world.
“We also face tremendous challenges with America’s
education system and workforce, and the House Education and
Labor Committee will play a critical role in promoting a
sensible vision for education reform and economic growth. As
this debate moves forward, I will faithfully fight for San
Diego’s families and support policies that reflect the needs and
interests of our community.”
