Concerts in the Park
ALPINE — The Alpine Community Center’s annual Concerts in the Park series began on May 31. These free community concerts begin at 5 p.m. each Sunday evening.
This year’s schedule is as follows: July 5 — Good Mojo (high energy dance rock).

Tuesday in the park
ALPINE —Viejas Outlet Center is proud to announce “Tuesdays in the Park” featuring the 2009 Movies in the Park Season with free, family-friendly movies, and Market in the Park, Alpine’s first farmers market.
Every Tuesday through Aug. 11, the center will feature free Movies in the Park. Movies will begin at sundown each week.
Also on Tuesdays, Viejas is proud to bring the first farmers market to Alpine, Market in the Park. Every Tuesday through Aug. 25, the Market in the Park will feature fresh produce, plants and specialty items from local vendors from 3:30-7:30 p.m.
Movie schedule is as follows: July 7 – IGOR, July 14 – Madagascar 2 Escape Africa, July 21 – Hotel for Dogs, July 28 – Surf’s Up, Aug. 4 – The Ant Bully, Aug. 11 – Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.
The Farmers Market and movies are free and open to the public. Blankets are allowed, but no alcohol or pets permitted.

12th annual July 4th parade
ALPINE — All residents of Alpine are invited to the 12th annual Crown Hills July 4th Parade, to be held Saturday, July 4 beginning at 10 a.m. The parade is hosted by the homeowners of Crown Hills and assisted by the Kiwanis Club of Alpine.
This year, children are invited to decorate themselves, their bikes, wagons or pets and enter the parade. Staging begins at 9 a.m. Parking for parade spectators is along Victoria Park Terrace only.

East County Tea Party
EL CAJON — A special East County Tea party will take place this Saturday, July 4 in El Cajon. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Renette Park, 935 Emerald Ave. in El Cajon.
Special guests for the event include Hon. Chuck Devore, U.S. Senate Candidate, Hon. Joel Anderson, State Assemblyman, Hon. Bill Wells, El Cajon City Councilman, Jell Olson, Candidate for Assessor/Recorder, and Rick Amato, The Rick Amato Show KCBQ AM 1170.

DTSC community meeting
EL CAJON — The Department of Toxic Substances Control invites the public to an open house and community meeting on Tuesday, July 7, to discuss the issue and plan regarding cleanup activities of toxic substances at Granite Hills High School.
The open house will begin at 5 p.m. and the community meeting will begin at 6:15 p.m., in the Granite Hills High School Theater, 17819 East Madison Ave., El Cajon.
The draft RAW and other related project documents for this school site are available for review and public comment at the El Cjaon Branch Library, as well as online at www.envirostor.dtsc.ca.gov. The DTSC will make a final decision on the draft RAW after all public comments have been reviewed and considered.

ALPINE — The local Alpine library branch offers many different activities for people of all ages.
Recurring Events: Preschool/ Toddler Story Time: Wednesdays, 10:30 a.m. (Spanish/English bilingual story time 2nd and 4th Wednesdays).
Children’s Craft – Second Saturdays, 1-3 p.m., supplies provided
Children’s Coloring Table – every Saturday, 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Teen Craft – Fourth Thursday, 3-5 p.m.
Adult Book Discussion – Third Saturdays, 10 a.m.
Adult Knitting Circle – Thursdays, 6-7:30 p.m. (We welcome those that crochet, too!).
Special Events for July: The Summer Reading Program is in full swing at the Alpine Library. The program ends on Friday, July 31, so if you have not already signed up, please stop in the library to sign up or sign up online at SDCL.org.
We are offering a special Henna Tattoo program for teens on Thursday, July 9 at 2 p.m. Parental permission is required.
For adults the library offers a free workshop on digital photography Saturday, July 11, at 1 p.m. Please bring your digital camera. No need to pre-register.
For school-age children there will be a special art program with Sharon Clifton at 2 p.m. All supplies are provided. Please join us and allow your creativity to blossom.

DC Kids fundraiser
ALPINE — Come support the DC Kids 2010 8th grade East Coast Educational Tour through a community barbecue and car wash fundraiser on Saturday, July 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Alpine Albertsons.
Music will be provided by East County’s My 107.9 FM. Many local vendors will have booths to help support the kids: Silpada; Mary Kay; Park Lane Jewelry; Party Lite, Eco-Chic reusable bags; Putting Green game, Snow cones, churros, popcorn, and more. A special “thank you” to Albertson’s for donating their space.

Pine Valley Days
PINE VALLEY — The 39th Annual Pine Valley Day is just around the corner, so make sure you mark your calendars for July 25.
Be sure to start off the day with breakfast burritos at the Pine Valley Clubhouse from 7 to 9 a.m. The parade begins at 9 a.m. and makes its way along Historic Old Highway 80.
Following the parade, mosey-on-down to the Pine Valley County Park. Here you will find craft vendors, food, and fun. We’ve also rounded-up two of San Diego County’s hottest bands, Southbound Jonny and The HonkyTonk Kings. And what would Pine Valley Day be without the famous deep pit barbecue dinner cooked to perfection and served to you by the Mountain Empire Men’s Club?

ACRES meeting
ALPINE — The Alpine Chamber Real Estate Services (ACRES) committee of the Alpine Mountain Empire Chamber of Commerce will host a public real estate meeting with guest speaker Gary H. London, nationally known strategic consultant and real estate economist, to discuss the real estate market and its future.
The event will be held Thursday, July 9 from 6:30-7:30 p.m., at Chase Bank, 1271 Tavern Rd., Alpine. The cost is free.

VFW Luau
ALPINE — The Alpine VFW’s Ladies Auxiliary is hosting its annual Hawaiian Luau on Saturday, July 25, at 1 p.m. at the post 844 Tavern Road, Alpine.
Proceeds from the event to benefit the many Auxiliary Projects for Veterans, their families and the community. Music will be presented by Ricky Z.
Tickets by donation are $10, available in the canteen, tickets at the door $12.
