Planners look to
revitalize Alpine parkland
The Alpine Revitalization Steering Committee
held a session June 26 at Crown Hills Country Club. Second
District Supervisor Dianne Jacob moderated the meeting, but very
few local chairmen were actually in attendance.
Board of Supervisors update Community Trails Master Plan
he San Diego
County Board of Supervisors approved its first update of the
county's Community Trails Master Plan. The supervisors' 5-0 vote
accepts approximately 11 miles of trail easements which had
previously been rejected, including 0.82 miles in Alpine.
Local vintners take ribbons at county fair
Jamul residents Jim and Sharon Ney won eight ribbons at
the San Diego County Fair's homemade wine contest, while
Alpine's David Didier took home five ribbons.

Annual Western Luau in Descanso
Chapel of the Hills Community United Methodist Church (www.chapelofthehills.org)
is busily preparing for their Annual Western Luau, to be held on
the church grounds in Descanso on Sunday, Aug. 2 from noon to 4
p.m. The community and all their family, friends and
acquaintances are welcome to come to this event.
Viejas thief gets two years plus six for other crimes
An escaped inmate from county jail who tried to cash a
stolen check for $1,400 while gambling at the Viejas Casino in
Alpine was sentenced July 14 to eight years in prison for the
escape and other charges.
Civic Report: Setback for Sunrise Powerlink: Opponents’
appeal proceeds
A panel of federal administrative law judges dealt a
major blow to the Sunrise Powerlink power line project on
Tuesday, July 14, when they ruled that local opponents had
standing to challenge the project and rejected SDG&E’s claim
that their appeal was untimely. They also ruled that SDG&E would
have to comply with a new timetable delaying construction on the
project until at least June 2010.
Liberty One Media announces new progressive radio station
for county
"We are here to announce creation of Liberty One Radio,
where your voice and the voice of freedom can again be heard,”
Hector Bonilla, chief financial officer of the venture announced
at a press conference held atop Mt. Soledad last month. The
station will feature progressive views, locally produced
newscasts, and a mixture of national and local radio show hosts
including East County radio personality Stacy Taylor.
