fire-wise tips at RCD new facility grand opening
The Resource Conservation District (RCD) of
Greater San Diego County hosted an open house and held a press
conference and a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday morning, May
29, at its new facility in Lakeside.

County Board of Supervisors voted to streamline the process for
meteorological equipment testing for wind energy turbines while
directing county staff to return to the board with an analysis
on developing a two-tiered ordinance, which separated domestic
and commercial systems.
Alpine grandmother was victim of strangulation
An Alpine grandmother died of strangulation in her
mobile home, a prosecutor said after a hearing June 5 in which
her grandson and another man are charged with her murder.

EPA investigates toxins at Granite Hills High School
Parents of students at Granite Hills High School
located in El Cajon, have been stunned to learn that the school
is the subject of an Environmental Protection Agency toxicology
investigation. Granite Hills is one of the major high schools
that Alpine regional students attend.

Local student crosses the pond for internship
A.J. Campbell of Alpine, CA, who is a sophomore now
attending Smith College in Massachusetts, has been awarded an
intern ship with Kew Royal Botanical Gardens in London, England.
During this 10 week summer internship, Campbell will be working
with Kew Garden staff in their Molecular Biology/Genetics Lab.
Kiwanis members honored
On May 30, at its regularly scheduled meeting, the
Kiwanis Club of Alpine honored some of its members with special
awards.
