Concerts in the Park
ALPINE — The Alpine Community Center’s annual Concerts in the Park series began on May 31. These free community concerts begin at 5 p.m. each Sunday evening.
This year’s schedule is as follows: June 14 — Swamp Critters (danceable good time Louisiana style music); June 21 — Midilin Brother’s Band (Classic rock from the last 50 years), June 28 — The Legends (rock and roll, Motown, and Doo-wop revue); July 5 — Good Mojo (high energy dance rock).

Snake avoidance training
PINE VALLEY — Rattlesnake season is back, and it’s time to teach your dog to avoid this danger. Greenhead Club in Pine Valley is having a snake avoidance clinic taught by professional dog trainer Patrick Callaghan, on June 13 and 14.
Cost is $70. Call 448-8088 for an appointment and more information.

Italian night
ALPINE — Italian Night is back. Saturday, June 13 at 5:30 p.m. enjoy a delicious pasta dinner including sausage and meatballs, salad, bread, dessert and beverage along with a variety of musical entertainment directed by Sylvia Lorraine Hartman, Soprano and featuring guest artist, Joe Pechota, Baritone.
Adult admission is $15 and $5 for children 12 and under, there is no charge for children three and under. The annual fundraising event is held at Christ the King Episcopal Church located at 1460 Midway Drive in Alpine. There will also be a prize drawing and auction.
Tickets are limited and must be purchased in advance so call 445-3419.

Alpine Chorale concert
ALPINE — The Women’s Guild of the Alpine Community Church is sponsoring the semi-annual Alpine Chorale’s Family and Friends Concert. It will be held on Sunday, June 14, 6:30 p.m. at the Alpine Community Church.
Refreshments will be served and all members and friends of the community are invited to a free evening of entertainment and festivities.

Republican Women’s screening
ALPINE — The Public is invited to a free movie screening sponsored by the Mtn. Empire Republican Women Federated.
The movie ‘Obsession’ — A documentary about radical Islam’s war against the west, will be shown on the evening of June 15 at 7 p.m. in the clubhouse of Alpine Mobile Home Estates, 2400 Alpine Blvd.
Refreshments will be served. Please make reservations with Marilyn Kruso at 454-0532 if you plan to attend.

Tuesday in the park
ALPINE —Viejas Outlet Center is proud to announce “Tuesdays in the Park” featuring the 2009 Movies in the Park Season with free, family-friendly movies, and Market in the Park, Alpine’s first farmers market.
Beginning June 16, and every Tuesday through Aug. 11, the center will feature free Movies in the Park. Movies will begin at sundown each week.
Also on Tuesdays, beginning June 23, Viejas is proud to bring the first farmers market to Alpine, Market in the Park. Every Tuesday through Aug. 25, the Market in the Park will feature fresh produce, plants and specialty items from local vendors from 3:30-7:30 p.m.
Movie schedule is as follows: June 16 – Kung Fu Panda, June 23 – Indian Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, June 30 – The Tale of Despereaux, July 7 – IGOR, July 14 – Madagascar 2 Escape Africa, July 21 – Hotel for Dogs, July 28 – Surf’s Up, Aug. 4 – The Ant Bully, Aug. 11 – Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.
The Farmers Market and movies are free and open to the public. Blankets are allowed, but no alcohol or pets permitted.

 

Farmer’s Market
BOULEVARD — The Golden Acorn Casino is pleased to announce the Farmer’s Market and Spring Fair has been scheduled for the following dates: Friday, June 12, Saturday, June 13, and Sunday, June 14.

Annual yard sale
DESCANSO — The Friends of the Descanso Library will hold its annual yard sale on Saturday, June 13, at the library from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Items such as furniture, tools, antiques, toys, electronics, books, DVDs and more will be available.
Donations to the yard sale will be accepted on Friday, June 12 at the sale site. Please, no clothing donations.

26th annual Piano recital
ALPINE — Piano students of local piano and organ instructor David Bruce will hold their 26th Annual Spring Recital at Pastor Hal Rollins’ First Baptist Church of Alpine at Arnold Way and Tavern Road at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 14.
Scheduled to perform are: Abigail Boek: The Haunted Mouse, Classic Dance, Mama Sent Me to the Store. Noah Boek: Sunburst Waltz, Pumpkin Boogie, The Dragon Hunt. Sierra Boek: The Pink Panther, Snowflake Rag, Fur Elise. Sierra Boek and Noah Boek: Duet “Heart and Soul” (Their own arrangement). Timmy Caruthers: Pinball Wizard, The Little Man in the Woods (from “Hansel and Gretel”), Spring from “Four Seasons,” Pachelbel Canon Theme, Noona’s Syncopated Sonatina. Trinity Caruthers: Yankee Doodle, Baseball Game, My Hobbyhorse, The Bell Tower. Kayla Pappalardo: The Star-Spangled Banner, Mozart’s “Don Giovanni,” Suitor’s Song. Kayla Pappalardo and Starla Toto: Duets “Ode to Joy” and “Chopin Waltz, Op. 18’ (Both arranged by teacher David Bruce).

Geocaching with Dad
BOULEVARD — Sacred Rocks Reserve will host a Geocaching With Dad Treasure Hunt and Beginning GPS Navigation Training Course for sons, daughters and dads of all ages, on Saturday, June 20. The Treasure Hunt will be held from 9 a.m. until noon. The Beginning GPS Navigation Training Course will be held at 8:30 a.m., right before the hunt begins. Horseshoe Tournament will be held from 1 – 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

Geocaching Treasure Hunt is $5 for “Daytripper” Geocachers. Participants must bring their own GPS Receiver or iPhone.
