Concerts in the Park
ALPINE — The Alpine Community Center’s annual Concerts in the Park series began on May 31. These free community concerts begin at 5 p.m. each Sunday evening.
This year’s schedule is as follows: June 21 — Midilin Brother’s Band (Classic rock from the last 50 years), June 28 — The Legends (rock and roll, Motown, and Doo-wop revue); July 5 — Good Mojo (high energy dance rock).

Tuesday in the park
ALPINE —Viejas Outlet Center is proud to announce “Tuesdays in the Park” featuring the 2009 Movies in the Park Season with free, family-friendly movies, and Market in the Park, Alpine’s first farmers market.
Every Tuesday through Aug. 11, the center will feature free Movies in the Park. Movies will begin at sundown each week.
Also on Tuesdays, beginning June 23, Viejas is proud to bring the first farmers market to Alpine, Market in the Park. Every Tuesday through Aug. 25, the Market in the Park will feature fresh produce, plants and specialty items from local vendors from 3:30-7:30 p.m.
Movie schedule is as follows: June 23 – Indian Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, June 30 – The Tale of Despereaux, July 7 – IGOR, July 14 – Madagascar 2 Escape Africa, July 21 – Hotel for Dogs, July 28 – Surf’s Up, Aug. 4 – The Ant Bully, Aug. 11 – Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.
The Farmers Market and movies are free and open to the public. Blankets are allowed, but no alcohol or pets permitted.

Luau, barbecue, duck race
ALPINE — A $10 rubber duck could win the $500 grand prize at the 3rd Annual Luau at the Ranch, Great Duck Race and Barbecue Rib Cook Off on Saturday, June 20, in Alpine!
The evening of fun to raise money for classroom needs in the Alpine Union School District is open to the public. The school benefit will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. at the historic Campbell Creek Ranch at 3535 Alpine Blvd.
Presented by the nonprofit Alpine Chamber Community Foundation of the Alpine Mountain Empire Chamber of Commerce, donations of $40 per reservation are partially tax deductible.
Entry includes five rib-tasting tickets with all the fixings, relaxing entertainment and ranch tours.
Anyone who buys a racing duck for $10 is eligible for the big prize if the duck floats first across the finish line. Winners don’t have to be present.

Free community
chipping
ALPINE — The Greater Alpine Fire Safe Council is hosting a free community chipping day on Saturday, June 27 from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 5221 Willows Road in Alpine.
Some restrictions apply: First come, first served; no dumping before or after event; proof of Alpine residency required; 8-inch maximum limb diameter; on site registration is required.

Nature photography
BOULEVARD — Sacred Rocks Reserve is offering a one-day photo “safari” workshop with award winning photographer, Lori Brookes.
Lori returned to school after 13 years in finance and banking to get her Fine Arts Degree at the age of 40. She has since won awards, been published and had her first gallery showing.
The event will be held on Saturday, June 27 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Guests are welcome to attend for a day visit or to stay overnight or camp for the entire weekend.

Wildfire workshop
ALPINE — Do you have wildfire concerns about your area of Alpine? If you do, please come to a brainstorming session as the Alpine Public Safety Committee works to update Alpine’s Community Wildfire Protection Plan.
This is a one-night only commitment, although if you find yourself compelled to work with GAFSC further, we’d gladly accept help.
The meeting is Tuesday, June 30 from 6-8 p.m. at Alpine Fire Station, 1364 Tavern Rd.

Geocaching with Dad
BOULEVARD — Sacred Rocks Reserve will host a Geocaching With Dad Treasure Hunt and Beginning GPS Navigation Training Course for sons, daughters and dads of all ages, on Saturday, June 20. The Treasure Hunt will be held from 9 a.m. until noon. The Beginning GPS Navigation Training Course (recommended for beginners) will be held at 8:30 am on the same day, right before the hunt begins. Horseshoe Tournament will be held from 1 – 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
Sacred Rocks Reserve and RV Park is located at 1331 Shasta Way, Boulevard, CA, 91905.
Geocaching Treasure Hunt is $5 for “Daytripper” Geocachers, plus site fees for tent and RV campers. Participants must bring their own GPS Receiver or iPhone. Discounted site fees, two nights for the price of one, available this event weekend only. At 5 p.m.

I Sing America
PINE VALLEY — Mountain Empire Creative Arts Council invites you to be part of the celebration of America’s journey through history. The public is welcome to join this remarkable Readers Theater production: I Sing America, The sage of our Nation.
The performance will take place Friday, June 26, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Pine Valley Clubhouse. Refreshments will be served.

Relay for life
talent contest
ALPINE — The relay for life begins Saturday, June 27. Organizers are looking for anyone with any talent; singing, dancing, magic, or whatever it is to come out and perform. The talent contest will start at 10 p.m.
If you are under 18 years old we would love for you to come out, but you have to be accompanied by an adult.

Historical Society open
ALPINE — The Alpine Historical Society Museum will be open to the public on Saturday, June 27 and Sunday, June 28 from 2 to 4 p.m.
This is a great opportunity to tour two historic homes plus an old school house. Learn all about Alpine’s history from knowledgeable docents. Both houses are owned by the Alpine Historical Society.

VBS at ACC
ALPINE — Children ages 5-12 are invited to Vacation Bible School at Alpine Community Church, 2225 West Victoria Dr. The Prayer Safari adventure will be Sunday, June 28 through Thursday, July 2 from 6 to 8 p.m.

VBS at Christ the King
ALPINE — Vacation Bible School (VBS) at Christ the King Episcopal Church will take place Wednesday, July 1 to Friday, July 3, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with snack lunch included.
The theme this year is “Growing in God’s Garden”. Children will enjoy learning about “seeds of faith” while sharing in crafts, games, and a fun outdoor garden project. Call and register today: 723-0309.

12th annual
July 4th parade
ALPINE — All residents of Alpine are invited to the 12th annual Crown Hills July 4th Parade, to be held Saturday, July 4 beginning at 10 a.m. The parade is hosted by the homeowners of Crown Hills and assisted by the Kiwanis Club of Alpine.
This year, children are invited to decorate themselves, their bikes, wagons or pets and enter the parade. Staging begins at 9 a.m. Parking for parade spectators is along Victoria Park Terrace only.
