Brennan Thorton, who plays Tevye in the AUSD production of Fiddler on the Roof, belts out “If I Were a Rich Man” during rehearsal on Tuesday evening.

ALPINE — Fiddler On The Roof is a musical drama that takes place in the Russian village of Anatevka in 1905. The Fiddler (Dylan Tweed) plays as the Jewish villagers struggle to fit their customs or “traditions” into a changing world. Yente, the matchmaker (McKenna Sinkovich) tells Golde (Shannon Barry) that Lazar Wolfe (Trevor Karsh) wants to marry Tzeitel (Eva Saksa) who refuses because she loves her childhood friend Motel (Ryan Ramos). Her father Tevye (Brennan Thorton) demands tradition be upheld.
A bookseller Avram (Blake Roberts) has news of the outside world when a student named Perchick (Issac Myres) overhears them. Tevye invites him to tutor his five daughters including Hodel (Kyleejo Berger), Chava (Cailyn Tubolino), Shprintze (Angela LaBella) and Bielke (Haley Price). How the villagers deal with life in Anatevka? Come see the musical to find out.
The play will be preformed at the Alpine Women’s Club on Alpine Blvd on March 19, 20, 21, 26, 27 and 28th with a 7 PM curtain. On Fridays and Saturdays there will be deli dinners for sale beginning at 6:15 PM. Tickets are on sale at Joan MacQueen Middle School or from any cast member or at the door. Get your tickets early as the shows have been selling out.
The cast includes Sophie Allred, Ashley Bowley, Melanie Barrett, Christopher Bowley, Jake Casey, Delany Casey, Wyatt Karsh, Jenny Kearley, Kevin Lui, Kyle Norris, Trevor Neuenswander, Kelsey Neuenswander, Kelsey Swink, Ani Skovmand, Haleigh Tharp and Tommy Zub.
The Gifted and Talented Sixth Grade Core at JMMS has been responsible for the production aspects of the musical this year. Directors Susan Lancaster-McGourty, Nicole LaBella, Tim Arends and Sandi Bennett have volunteered tremendous hours to make the musical another hit. Thanks also to the musical accompaniment of Joan Waterworth and the assistance of Bob Howell and the Alpine Kiwanis.
Tickets range in price from $5 to $25 for the front row. All proceeds go back into the musical theater funds to cover expenses. The show will be Broadway quality in Alpine’s own backyard.
