A woman killed in a Buckman Springs traffic collision
Wednesday has been identified by authorities as Michaleen Louise
Wright, a 63-year-old Campo resident.
Man pleads guilty to knife assault
An Alpine man
pleaded guilty last week to assaulting a tourist with a knife in
an incident in Carlsbad that involved a verbal altercation after
several people left a bar.
Alpine’s Honorary Mayor launches Apples for Education
Alpine’s new honorary mayor has already come up with a
way to help raise money for local schools. Bob Ring, Alpine
Albertsons store manager, was declared the winner of the annual
Honorary Mayor’s Race on Dec. 2 at the December Holiday Hot
Topics Networking Business Breakfast of the Alpine & Mountain
Empire Chamber of Commerce at the Viejas Casino’s DreamCatcher
lounge.
County 2008 Meth report card shows drop in related crimes
The County of San Diego released its 2008 Report Card on
Meth, Feb. 23 during a press conference downtown. The report
card cited statistics from 2007.
Hundreds show at Powerlink hearings
“We do not need this line to meet San Diego County’s
energy needs, now or in the future,” Dianne Jacob, chair of the
County Board of Supervisors, told a crowd of 200 to 300 Lakeside
residents at a Feb. 25 community meeting on Sunrise Powerlink.
Commission recommends accessory dwelling revisions
The county’s Planning Commission approved
recommendations to change the accessory dwelling unit portion of
the county’s Zoning Ordinance.

County deals with ‘Triple Whammy’ of economic problems
San Diego County has filed a lawsuit to keep the State
of the California from withholding aid payments to foster
families and the poorest San Diegans, a move first announced by
Chairwoman Dianne Jacob in her State of the County address this
month.
Albertson’s celebrates one year in Alpine with community
fair
Many showed up to participate in Albertson’s community
fair. Starting at ten o’clock in the morning, canopies that were
set up by the Alpine Kiwanis were filled with providers in town
of services and products that are available.
Some see splitting state as solution
While most Californians lament that the state is broke
and many criticize a broken system, an organization formed
primarily by agricultural interests seeks to break up the state.
State water project allocations remain unchanged despite
recent storms
The chair of the San Diego County Water Authority Board
of Directors said that the recent Department of Water Resources
announcement that State Water Project deliveries will not
increase despite recent rain and snow means the likelihood of
water supply shortages this year is growing stronger.
