LAKESIDE — The East County Community Action Coalition (ECCAC)
will host a call to action fundraiser on Saturday, May 30
from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Hazy Meadows Ranch, 15466 El Monte
Rd, Lakeside, CA 92040.
The event to raise awareness and money to fight San Diego
Gas & Electric’s proposed Sunrise Powerlink project will
feature live music, raffles, silent auctions, games,
activities and food.

Meeting with Reps
CAMPO — In light of the severe economic problems facing our
nation and state, H.O.P.E. of the Mountain Empire is hosting
a meet and greet with Assemblywoman Mary Salas on Saturday,
May 30.
The informal meeting will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. at 31310
Hwy 94, Campo (Star Ranch main house).
Come meet and talk with your State Representatives and hear
what they have to say about issues that affect our local
communities. Locally grown Gloriosa wine and cheese will be
served.

Dedication ceremony
ALPINE — The Alpine Kiwanis Club will host a dedication
ceremony on May 30 to honor members Reverend Frank Pannitti
and Don Cockayne, whose names will be added to The Memorial
of Distinguished Kiwanians from Alpine who have passed away.
The ceremony, at the Kiwanis Memorial Gazebo, located at the
Alpine Woman’s Club at 9 a.m. The Reverend Chuck Carder who
is a member of The Alpine Kiwanis Club will offer the
benediction and say a few words.
LMVA needs members
MT. LAGUNA — The Laguna Mountain Volunteer Assn will present
its annual recruitment and recurrent training session on
Saturday, May 30 at 9 a.m. Location is the “Roost Volunteer
Activity Center” at mile marker 23.5 on Sunrise Hwy. It is
located directly across from the Mt. Laguna Volunteer Fire
Dept facility.

NRA Family Day
ALPINE — Lemon Grove Rod and Gun Club will host a NRA Day
Family Shooting Sports Camp at their facility on May 30 from
8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Alpine. This free event is open to the
public for people over the age of six.
The goal of this event is to introduce families to a variety
of shooting sports and outdoor activities in a safe,
supervised, and enjoyable environment.

Football and cheer registration
ALPINE — Alpine Pop Warner Football and Cheer will hold one
final registration day on Saturday, June 6. The registration
will take place at Shadow Hills Elementary School from 10
a.m. to 4:30 p.m. All paperwork must be completed and turned
in and fees must be paid at registration time.

Summer tennis
ALPINE — Get ready for “cool” summer tennis at the Alpine
Community Center starting June 8. The ACC will offer a
variety of programs throughout the summer for all age groups
and player ability levels.
There will be adult and youth morning classes, including a
one-week tennis camp for youth beginners from June 22
through the 26.
Also, for the first time, Rene Toscano will introduce the
ACC TENNIS ACADEMY intended for serious athletes who wish to
train for tournament matches as well as compete at high
school level tennis.

PINE VALLEY — Rattle snake season is back, and it’s time to
teach your dog to avoid this danger. Greenhead Club in Pine
Valley is having a snake avoidance clinic taught by
professional dog trainer Patrick Callaghan, on June 13 and
14.

Energy and water conservation day
EL CAJON — The Blossom valley water task force announces
energy and water conservation day on Saturday, May 30 from
1-4 p.m., at 15853 Broad Oaks Road, El Cajon.
The event will feature information on the upcoming water
delivery cuts and the level 2 drought alert condition that
has been declared.
There will be demonstrations of water conservation measures,
products, xeriscape plants and alternatives and other items
of interest. The event will be held in blossom valley at the
home of Jim Callaghan and is free to the public.

Woman’s Club
scholarship
ALPINE — Each year, the Alpine Woman’s Club gives away
scholarships to deserving Alpine seniors. This year they
will give three $1,000 scholarships to deserving students.
Applications for scholarships must be received by May 31 in
order to be considered for the award ceremony on June 16.
This deadline cannot be extended. You may obtain a Word
document to facilitate completion of the application by
sending an email to info@alpinewomansclub.org.

Concerts in the Park
ALPINE — The Alpine Community Center’s annual Concerts in
the Park series is set to begin on Sunday, May 31, with the
classic rock and blues/country sounds of the Pine Creek
Posse. These free community concerts begin at 5 p.m. each
Sunday evening.
This year’s schedule is as follows: May 31 — Pine Creek
Posse (classic rock, blues and country); June 7 — Marine
Corps Band (military marching band); June 14 — Swamp
Critters (danceable good time Louisiana style music); June
21 — Midilin Brother’s Band (Classic rock from the last 50
years), June 28 — The Legends (rock and roll, Motown, and
Doo-wop revue); July 5 — Good Mojo (high energy dance rock).
Novelty Dog Show
ALPINE — Vendor spaces are available for the 5th Annual
Novelty Dog Show to be held at the Viejas Outlet Center on
Saturday, June 6.
Vendor space for this event is only available through the
5th Annual Novelty Dog Show, sponsored by Viejas Enterprises
and presented by the Alpine Stagecoach Lions Club. Proceeds
go to sponsor service dogs for individuals with
disabilities.

Alpine History Days
ALPINE — Come and celebrate the 12th Annual Alpine History
Days on Saturday, June 6 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the
Museums, 2116 Tavern Road, Alpine.
Tour the two pioneer houses, tap your feet to old time
music, enjoy the displays about the history of Agriculture
in Alpine. This is also the time when the 3rd grade essay
contest winners receive their awards for their essays about
the history of Alpine.
Lunch will be served of homemade chili, salad, bread, drinks
and ice cream sundaes. Cost is only $8 for adults and $5 for
children. There will also be la raffle with wonderful
prizes, and a silent auction.

Italian night
ALPINE — Italian Night is back. Saturday, June 13 at 5:30
p.m. enjoy a delicious pasta dinner including sausage and
meatballs, salad, bread, dessert and beverage along with a
variety of musical entertainment directed by Sylvia Lorraine
Hartman, Soprano and featuring guest artist, Joe Pechota,
Baritone.
Adult admission is $15 and $5 for children 12 and under,
there is no charge for children three and under. The annual
fundraising event is held at Christ the King Episcopal
Church located at 1460 Midway Drive in Alpine. There will
also be a prize drawing and auction.

Alpine Chorale concert
ALPINE — The Women’s Guild of the Alpine Community Church is
sponsoring the semi-annual Alpine Chorale’s Family and
Friends Concert. It will be held on Sunday, June 14, 6:30
p.m. at the Alpine Community Church.

the community are invited to a free evening of entertainment
