ALPINE — The Friends of the Library Bookstore, at 2554 Alpine Blvd., will go on Winter Hours beginning Nov.1. It will be open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Each week they feature some books on 1/2 price and our end of the Month 1/2 price sale is Nov. 28 and 29.
November weekly features include: Week of 18-22 Hard back Mysteries, Week of25-29 Romance.

Viejas rink open this weekend
ALPINE — Viejas Outlet Center officially kicks-off the holiday season this weekend, Nov. 13, with the opening of Southern California’s largest ice rink and holiday tree lighting.
Viejas Outlet Center is home to the largest outdoor ice skating rink in Southern California again this holiday season. The rink will be open to the public Nov. 14 through Jan. 3. For $12, skaters will enjoy 90 minutes of skating, which includes skate rental (military discounts available). Check www.viejasoutletcenter.com for specific dates and times.
The beginning of the holiday season would not be complete without a holiday tree lighting, held this Friday, Nov. 13. The festivities will begin at 6 p.m. in the Outlet Center Park area and will feature a live, choreographed ice show culminating with the lighting of the 87-foot holiday tree and a visit from Santa Claus. All performances are free and open to the public.

Thanksgiving in Song
ALPINE — A free community concert will be given on Sunday evening, Nov. 15 by Alpine musicians. Adult and youth choirs, vocal soloists and instrumentalists will participate.
The concert will be held at the Alpine Community Church, 2225 W. Victoria Drive, starting at 7 p.m., with a reception to follow. Greg Gibson, Brianna Thornton and Brennan Thornton will be guest soloists. Sylvia Hartman, a well-known Alpine musician, will also perform. The guest conductor for the evening will be Tim Lutz, a choral conductor and adjudicator from Placentia, California.
Appropriate to the season, a free-will Thanksgiving offering will be taken and given to the Alpine Community Center to be dispensed, as needed, to benefit people in the Alpine area.

Silpada Boutique Party
ALPINE — The Alpine Lions Club is hosting a Silpada Boutique Party fundraiser to benefit the local group.
Silpada is .925 Sterling Silver and Semi-Precious Stone Fine Jewelry. All the fun will be happening on Saturday, Nov. 21 from 2 to 4 p.m. at The Alpine Inn, 2223 Alpine Blvd.

Alpine Christmas
ALPINE — The 14th Annual Alpine Village Christmas Parade of Lights & Snow Festival will take place Friday, Dec. 11, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Santa will be riding down Alpine Boulevard for the 14th annual Alpine Village Christmas Parade of Lights. Everyone is invited to join Santa in the Parade of Lights. The only requirement is your entry be decorated with lights.
Immediately following the parade, Santa and his helpers will light the Alpine Community Christmas Tree and join in a holiday sing-a-long. Free playing on snow mountain for the young at heart!

Alpine Eagles Lacrosse registration
ALPINE — Alpine Eagles Lacrosse is now holding registration for the 2010 season on line.
Boys and girls in grades 5-8 are welcome to play. The Lacrosse season goes from February to May. Practice and all home games are played at Joan Mac Queen Middle School. The cost is $200 for early registration before Nov. 15 and $225 after that date.

Marching band extravaganza
SPRING VALLEY — The Grossmont Union High School District Marching Band and Color Guard Field Show Extravaganza will take place Tuesday, Nov. 17 at 6 p.m. at Monte Vista High School Stadium, 3230 Sweetwater Springs Blvd., Spring Valley.
The event will feature performances by all GUHSD highschools and will star the SDSU Marching Aztec Band.
Admission: $8 at the gate. Children up through fifth grade free. Middle school students 6, 7, 8 grades free with school ID or letter from band director. Parents expected to accompany children.

CPR Certification
ALPINE — Would you know what to do if your child stopped breathing or someone you love had a heart attack? Renee’s Uptown Salon will be hosting this class for the community on Wednesday, Nov. 18 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at 2710 Alpine Blvd.
Class covers adult, child, and infant CPR as well as the Heimlich Maneuver and drowning.

ACC Winter
tennis classes
ALPINE — “Stay fit all year round” is the mantra for the winter tennis season at the Alpine Community Center.
Classes begin Dec. 2 offered to all age groups and player ability levels. After school programs for youth players will be available as well as morning and evening sessions for adults.
Teaching Professional, Rene Toscano will schedule special classes for high school student athletes who wish to prepare for the upcoming Grossmont High School League season.

Holiday trail ride
PINE VALLEY — Horse of the Sun will host a Holiday Trail Ride to benefit rescue horses on Dec. 5 at 9 a.m. at 28271 Old Hwy. 80, Pine Valley.
The cost is $30 and will include trail ride and brunch served after the ride, $15 for brunch only. Raffle tickets will be sold for great prizes, and there will be a silent auction full of wonderful items such as joint supplements, equine artwork, restaurant gift certificates, wine, home decor, tack, grooming products and so much more.

Holiday home tour
ALPINE — The Alpine Woman’s Club will hold its Fifth Annual “Christmas in Alpine” on Sunday, Dec. 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Visitors will have an opportunity to stroll through five stunning country estates, plus three historic buildings, including the Alpine Museum buildings and the Town Hall. There will be a $500 opportunity drawing and other raffle items.
Tickets for the tour are $25 per ticket. To order please mail a check to the Alpine Woman’s Club P.O. Box 231, Alpine, CA 91903. Tickets can also be purchased the day of the event at the Woman’s Club 2156 Alpine Blvd. Proceeds benefit the preservation of the historic Town Hall.
