APG is presented with latest Alpine Protection and Evacuation Plan  
     Alpine Planning Group members were updated on the Alpine Protection and Evacuation Plan (APEP) at the regular meeting held Thursday, Oct. 22. Each year, the APG approves the local emergency plan.  

Residents get update on high school progress     
     Last week, well over 100 Alpine and Harbison Canyon residents crowded into the Alpine Elementary School Auditorium to hear a report on the status of the new Alpine High school. Grossmont Union High School District Superintendent Bob Collins was on hand along with the new schools architectural team to report on a variety of subjects.
 

Officials look to AUSD future at Strategic Planning meetings  
     The Alpine Union School District held its first Strategic Planning meeting on Thursday, Oct. 22, inviting teachers, administrators and parents to get involved in the advancement of Alpine students’ educational process.

More candidates throw their hats into the Honorary Mayoral ring
Some new names have come up in the race for Alpine’s Honorary Mayor. The list of candidates includes Carlette Anderson, owner of Save-A-Heart, the CPR Pros; Charlie Brown, Viejas director of communications; Sallie Brown (no relation), a sales director for Mary Kay Cosmetics; and Susan Lancaster, a Joan Mac Queen Middle School Teacher. 
 
Descanso man admits assault, requests immediate sentencing  
Joseph Clay Rupe, 38, of Descanso, pleaded guilty last week to felony assault and evading police afterwards and asked for immediate sentencing. He got it — three years and eight months in state prison.

Alpine: Horse town
Not too long ago, Alpine was a small, country town, filled with ranches, cowboys and horses.
