Thanksgiving concert
ALPINE — Alpine Church of Spiritual Living will host a Thanksgiving event on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m.
There will be good music, food, and a silent auction at the church, 2400 Alpine Blvd.
Tickets for the event are $15, with limited seating. Donations for silent auction items are appreciated. For more information or tickets, please contact Judy Grant at 445-1987 or Jane Duggan at 445-1973.

Higgins fundraiser
ALPINE — On Monday, Nov. 9, from 6-9 p.m. the Vinnie Higgins fund raising dinner and auction will take place at the Alpine Community Center.
Great food and a great cause. Tremendous auction items as well as special appearances by Marc Bailey from Channel 6, Mark Grant from the Padres and Channel 4, Dave Stall from KUSI and KCBQ, Hank Bauer, former Charger and broadcaster, Charger greats, Pete Shaw and Willie Buchanan. The Alpine Outlaws will also be on hand to help and entertain.
Some of the auction items include: Weekend for two at Humphrey’s by the bay with $130 worth of dining, Private plane over to Casa Del Zorro for breakfast, a ride in a bi-plane, ticket to anywhere Southwest Airlines flies, 1 hour driving a NASCAR, golf package from Sycuan, products from Atria Salon, haircut from Super Cuts, a almost life size collector doll from Haley Price and more.

Holiday home tour
ALPINE — The Alpine Woman’s Club will hold its Fifth Annual “Christmas in Alpine” on Sunday, Dec. 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Visitors will have an opportunity to stroll through five stunning country estates, plus three historic buildings, including the Alpine Museum buildings and the Town Hall. There will be a $500 opportunity drawing and other raffle items.
Tickets for the tour are $25 per ticket. To order please mail a check to the Alpine Woman’s Club P.O. Box 231, Alpine, CA 91903. Tickets can also be purchased the day of the event at the Woman’s Club 2156 Alpine Blvd. Proceeds benefit the preservation of the historic Town Hall.

Alpine Christmas
ALPINE — The 14th Annual Alpine Village Christmas Parade of Lights & Snow Festival will take place Friday, Dec. 11, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Santa will be riding down Alpine Boulevard for the 14th annual Alpine Village Christmas Parade of Lights. Everyone is invited to join Santa in the Parade of Lights!
Immediately following the parade, Santa and his helpers will light the Alpine Community Christmas Tree and join in a holiday sing-a-long. Free playing on snow mountain for the young at heart!

4-H Amigos looking
for members
ALPINE — The Alpine Amigos 4H Club is looking for new members from the ages of 5-19.
4H is a kid’s club that provides learning opportunities such as horses, dogs, community service, archery, and judging. 4-H is looking for members and adult leaders that would be interested in Small animals, Biking, Leather Making, Lego, Computer, Garden, Arts and Crafts or any other fun projects you would like to add.
The most popular program is the Horse project, which lets children that are 9-19 years old learn how to ride a horse in a safe, fun environment.

ALFA Bookstore
ALPINE — The Friends of the Library Bookstore, at 2554 Alpine Blvd., will go on Winter Hours beginning Nov.1. It will be open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Each week they feature some books on 1/2 price and our end of the Month 1/2 price sale is Nov. 28 and 29.
November weekly features include: Week of 11-15 Family and Child Care, Week of 18-22 Hard back Mysteries, Week of25-29 Romance.

Thanksgiving in Song
ALPINE — A free community concert will be given on Sunday evening, Nov. 15 by Alpine musicians. Adult and youth choirs, vocal soloists and instrumentalists will participate.
The concert will be held at the Alpine Community Church, 2225 W. Victoria Drive, starting at 7 p.m., with a reception to follow. Greg Gibson, Brianna Thornton and Brennan Thornton will be guest soloists. Sylvia Hartman, a well-known Alpine musician, will also perform. The guest conductor for the evening will be Tim Lutz, a choral conductor and adjudicator from Placentia, California.
Appropriate to the season, a free-will Thanksgiving offering will be taken and given to the Alpine Community Center to be dispensed, as needed, to benefit people in the Alpine area.

Marching band
extravaganza
SPRING VALLEY — The Grossmont Union High School District Marching Band and Color Guard Field Show Extravaganza will take place Tuesday, Nov. 17 at 6 p.m. at Monte Vista High School Stadium, 3230 Sweetwater Springs Blvd., Spring Valley.
The event will feature performances by all GUHSD highschools and will star the SDSU Marching Aztec Band.
Admission: $8 at the gate. Children up through fifth grade free. Middle school students 6, 7, 8 grades free with school ID or letter from band director. Parents expected to accompany children.

CPR Certification
ALPINE — Would you know what to do if your child stopped breathing or someone you love had a heart attack? Renee’s Uptown Salon will be hosting this class for the community on Wed Nov. 18th from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at 2710 Alpine Blvd.
Class covers adult, child, and infant CPR as well as the Heimlich Maneuver and drowning.
Adults $45, children 9 yrs to 17 years $30. Space is limited. To register please call Save-A-Heart at 445-4569.

Holiday trail ride
PINE VALLEY — Horse of the Sun will host a Holiday Trail Ride to benefit rescue horses on Dec. 5 at 9 a.m. at 28271 Old Hwy. 80, Pine Valley.
The cost is $30 and will include trail ride and brunch served after the ride. $15 for brunch only. Raffle tickets will be sold for great prizes, and there will be a silent auction full of
wonderful items such as joint supplements, equine artwork, restaurant gift certificates, wine, home decor, tack, grooming products and so much more.

Collections for Rady’s
ALPINE — Alpine residents have continued to respond to requests for items for the Ronald McDonald house. They could use toothbrushes, men’s and woman’s white socks and hairbrushes, and under garments. Ronald McDonald House, next to the Rady’s Children’s Hospital is always in need of these donations. Rady’s is also collecting pull-tabs from soda and beer cans, to be recycled for money.
Ronald McDonald House houses families who have critically ill children in Rady’s Children’s Hospital. Items can be bagged and dropped off at The Alpine Sun office.
Got an old car you want to get rid of? It must have an engine, although doesn’t need to be in running order. Contact Dick Rabell at 445-5712 to make arrangements to have your vehicle picked up and donated. Will be auctioned off and you will be notified.
