ALFA membership month
ALPINE — October is ALFA Membership Month. Memberships in ALFA costs $10 a year. By joining in October, you receive three extra months of membership for 2010 plus a free Bookstore bag.
ALFA is a non-profit organization supporting the Alpine Public Library. Join by coming into the Bookstore at 2554 Alpine Blvd

Miracle Mile of Quarters Golf Tournament
EL CAJON — The Alpine Kiwanis are hosting their 20th annual Golf Tournament and dinner on Friday, Oct. 23. This event is held on the beautiful grounds of the Sycuan Resort golf course in El Cajon.
In the evening, visitors can stay and enjoy a banquet dinner with fellow Alpine Kiwanian and San Diego Padres announcer Mark Grant and his friends as they conduct a lively sports memorabilia auction and raffle drawing.

Old West Harvest Fest
BOULEVARD — Every October, Sacred Rocks Reserve hosts the Old West Harvest Fest, open to the public. This year’s event will take place Friday to Suday Oct. 23-25.
Everyone from near and far, Southern California to out of state, camper or local resident, is invited to kick up their heels and celebrate the bounty of autumn at our beautiful nature reserve.

Shadow Hills
Fall Festival
ALPINE — Shadow Hills Elementary School will host its annual Fall Festival on Friday, Oct. 30 from 6 to 9 p.m.
Local troops, clubs, and youth groups are invited to participate and fund raise for their groups. The Shadow Hills PTA Fall Festival is open to the public, we have multiple game booths, food booths, silent auction items, music by DJ Dave, Cake Walk, photos and Haunted Trail.
The PTA is in need of baked goods for the cake walk (cakes, brownies, cookies, etc.) All auction items are donated by San Diego and local businesses. We are still seeking sponsors to help fund lighting, music, trash pick up, and all expenses associated with this program. All proceeds go back to the SHES classrooms, club or youth groups participating.

Halloween carnival
ALPINE — Alpine Elementary School’s PTA Halloween Carnival will be held Friday, Oct. 30 from 4:30 to 7:30 pm.
Alpine residents are invited to join us for a night of family fun in a safe and festive environment. There will be games, prizes, food and fun.

Family fun night
CAMPO — The next Mtn. Empire Family Fun Night is Friday, Oct. 30 at the Mountain Empire Community Center, 976 Sheridan Rd. Campo.
More volunteers are needed for this event so if you are able to help it would be very much appreciated.
Debbie Comstock is going to do the presentation on healthy relationships and family violence. The children will be doing Halloween oriented activities.

Thanksgiving in Song
ALPINE — A free community concert will be given on Sunday evening, Nov. 15, by Alpine musicians. Adult and children’s choirs, soloists and instrumentalists will take part.
The concert will be held at the Alpine Community Church, 2225 W. Victoria Drive, starting at 7 p.m. with a reception to follow. Childcare will be provided.

Rummage sale
ALPINE — The Alpine Stagecoach Lions Club will be holding a Rummage Sale on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot of the Alpine Chamber of Commerce located at 2707 Alpine Blvd.

Author talk
DESCANSO — The Descanso Branch of the San Diego County Library will be presenting Leland Fetzer, local author on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 11 a.m.
Mr. Fetzer is the author of several books on local history, including “A Year in the Cuyamacas” and his newest book, “The Cuyamacas: The Story of San Diego’s High Country, 1772-2003”.
Please join us at the library for an informative and entertaining program.

Disney Quiz Night
ALPINE — Creekside Early Learning Center will host its annual fundraiser, the Disney Quiz Night, on Tuesday, Oct. 27 fro 5 to 8 p.m. in the Viejas Dreamcatcher Lounge.
CELC’s PTYA and staff hose this adults-only event, made possible by many local businesses and individuals. The evening includes hors d’oeuvres, opportunity drawings, auctions and a fast paced competitive game of sports, music and Disney trivia.
Seating is available and reservations are being taken now at $25 per person or $150 for a table of eight. Proceeds benefit CELC and its students.

Community meeting
ALPINE — GUHSD will host a community information meeting in Alpine on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the Alpine Elementary School auditorium.
Participants will learn more about the new high school planned for the Lazy A site in Alpine as well as have the opportunity to ask questions.
All Alpine residents are invited and encouraged to attend this informational meeting.

Harvest in the park
ALPINE — The East Valley Christian Fellowship will host a Harvest in the Park on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 5-8 p.m. at the Alpine Community Center Park.

Tree Town meeting
ALPINE — Alpine Tree Town will be having its next meeting on Nov. 4, at the Chamber conference room. The group will meet at 5:30 p.m. and all who are interested in the continued greening of Alpine are welcome to attend.
Alpine Tree Town is attempting to start a tree program in the schools and if anyone is interested in getting involved in that please contact Carlette Anderson at carletteanderson@aol.com.
The aim of the program is to help children learn how to plant and care for trees and also to appreciated them and the role trees play in our lives and the life of the planet.

Costume contest
ALPINE — Viejas Outlet Center will host a kids and pets Halloween costume contest on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 5005 Willows Road, Alpine.
Entry is free and its fu for the whole family. Event and registration begin at noon, winner will be announced at 3:35 p.m.

Bingo and spaghetti
ALPINE — The Alpine Community Center presents a special Bingo and Spaghetti fundraiser on Wednesday, Nov. 4, with all proceeds donated to senior programs. The event runs from 4 to 7 p.m. with dinner being served at 5 p.m.
Reservations are required. Cost is $10 per person, $7 for ACC members and includes two free bingo cards. Extra cards are $1 each.
