Craft and harvest festival
ALPINE — Alpine Country Gifts and Crafts presents its 16th
anniversary craft and harvest festival on Oct. 8 through 11
at the Alpine Woman’s Club, 2156 Alpine Blvd.

Choir fall session
ALPINE — The Community Youth Choir (CYC) is beginning its
fall session. Weekly voice lessons are on Thursdays at 6:30
p.m. at Christ The King Episcopal Church, 1460 Midway Dr.,
Alpine.
Register today, classes begin Oct. 15 and there will be a
recital on Dec. 17. Tuition is $65 for 10 weeks including
recital. This session features a holiday theme from the
movie soundtrack “The Polar Express”.

AFPD open house
ALPINE — The Alpine Fire Protection District will host its
annual open house on Saturday, Oct. 17 from 10 a.m. to 2
p.m. at the station on Tavern Road.
The event will feature various fire and law enforcement
safety booths, demonstrations as well as food. Stop by the
station at 1364 Tavern Road.

EL CAJON — The Grossmont College Career Center will present
four free career workshops on campus at the Career Center
office, Room 627, located adjacent to the Student Center,
during its 2009 Career Week, Oct. 19 to 22. The public is

Old West Harvest Fest
BOULEVARD — Every October, Sacred Rocks Reserve hosts the
Old West Harvest Fest, open to the public. This year’s event
will take place Friday to Sunday Oct. 23-25.

CERT in Descanso
DESCANSO — If a disastrous event overwhelms or delays the
community’s professional response, CERT members can assist
others by applying the basic response and organizational
skills that they learned during training. These skills can
help save and sustain lives following a disaster until
professional help arrives.
The CERT training will be held at the Descanso Town Hall and
the
Descanso Library. Addresses will be provided upon
registration. The classes themselves are free and begin on
Friday, Oct. 9 at 6:30 p.m. Dates are Oct. 9, 10, 15, 16 and
17, ending with a test and graduation.

Garden Club tour
ALPINE — The Alpine Garden Club will be going on a tour of
“The Water Conservation Garden” at Cuyamama College on
Saturday, Oct.10.
The tour starts at 10:30 a.m. and they will meet at 9:30
a.m. at the Alpine Woman’s Club. The docent -lead tour
promotes water-conservation landscape through beautiful
exhibits and programs that teach and inspire the general
public. The tour is free of charge and everyone will go away
from this gathering with such tips as water-wise
landscaping, mulching, the grouping of plants together and
fall garden planting.
Following the tour they will go to the October Fest for

Campo Cougar festival
CAMPO — The Campo Cougar Club presents its October festival
on Saturday, Oct. 10 from noon to 8 p.m. at Star Ranch,
31310 Highway 94 in Campo.
Activities will include: Horse Shoe Tournament (entry fee),
barbecue Cook-off (entry fee), Chili Cook-off (entry fee),
booths, Petting Zoo, Rides, Inflatables, Hay rides, Pumpkin
patch and carving area, Costume contest, live music
featuring the Pine Valley Posse, fire, police, K-9 demo,
face painting, and much more.

Tree Town meeting
ALPINE — Alpine Tree Town will be having its next meeting on
Oct. 21, at the Chamber conference room. The group will meet
at 5:30 p.m. and all who are interested in the continued
greening of Alpine are welcome to attend.
Alpine Tree Town is attempting to start a tree program in
the schools and if anyone is interested in getting involved
in that please contact Carlette Anderson at carletteanderson@aol.com.
The aim of the program is to help children learn how to
plant and care for trees and also to appreciated them and
the role trees play in our lives and the life of the planet.

Golf Tournament
EL CAJON — The Alpine Kiwanis are hosting their 20th annual
Golf Tournament and dinner on Friday, Oct. 23. This event is
held on the beautiful grounds of the Sycuan Resort golf
course in El Cajon.
In the evening, visitors can stay and enjoy a banquet dinner
with fellow Alpine Kiwanian and San Diego Padres announcer
Mark Grant and his friends as they conduct a lively sports
memorabilia auction and raffle drawing.
Past participation has helped raise over $600,000 for Rady’s
Children’s Hospital. We present the funds each May at the
Miracle Mile of Quarters Red Carpet event at the hospital.

DESCANSO — The Descanso Branch of the San Diego County
Library will be presenting Leland Fetzer, local author on
Saturday, Oct. 24 at 11 a.m.
Mr. Fetzer is the author of several books on local history,
including “A Year in the Cuyamacas” and his newest book,
“The Cuyamacas: The Story of San Diego’s High Country,
1772-2003”.

Home tour planning
ALPINE — The Alpine Woman’s Club is planning their Fifth
Annual Holiday Home Tour on Sunday, Dec. 6, if they can find
three more homes.
They are looking for volunteers to open their lovely homes
that reflect the homeowners style of decorating for the
holidays. If you are selling your home this can be a unique
opportunity to show case it at this festive time of year.
The proceeds from this fundraiser go towards the
preservation and maintenance of the Historic Town Hall as
well providing academic scholarships for Alpine seniors.
