Pop Warner Opening Day
ALPINE –Alpine Pop Warner Football and Cheer will host its home opening day celebration beginning at 9 a.m. Sept. 12, at Granite Hills High School. All Alpine Pop Warner players and cheerleaders will be on hand to join in on the celebration. The Pop Warner participants will be joined by Granite Hills High School football players. Admission is free.
San Diego County Supervisor Dianne Jacob will be on hand to officially cut the ribbon to APW’s new concession trailer. Income earned from concession trailer sales will be used to maintain and support APW.

20th Annual Sycuan Pow-Wow
EL CAJON — Sycuan Casino is hosting its 20th Annual Pow-Wow on Sept. 11-13, at 5459 Sycuan Road El Cajon.
The weekend-long event features traditional dance competition where participants vie for $125,000 in prize money.
Arts & Crafts Booths are $250 and Food Booths are available for$350 for the weekend. Information booths are free. Camping and water are available.

Fallen hero fund raiser
PINE VALLEY — The Campo Border Patrol Station will be hosting a fund raiser and dinner for fallen border patrol agent Robert Rosas on Saturday, Sept. 12 at the La Posta Diner, 32337 Old Hwy 80.
The event will go all day with breakfast served from 8 to 11 a.m., lunch served from noon to 2 p.m. and dinner served from 3 to 6 p.m.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. with an auction to follow. There will also be a silent auction held all day as well as live music and entertainment.

Sockers come to Alpine
ALPINE — The 10 Time National Champion San Diego Sockers will be at Alpine PAC, 2710 Alpine Blvd., on Saturday, Sept 12 at 3 p.m.

CPR/First Aid class
DESCANSO — There will be a CPR/First Aid Certification Class at the Descanso Library on Saturday, Sept. 19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Descanso Fire Safe Council will provide a continental breakfast. You can bring your own lunch or go to one of the local establishments during the lunch break. There is a $10 fee to cover the cost of material.
Please call the Descanso Library (445-5279) to register for this class. The library is located at 9545 River Dr., Descanso.

32nd annual Rose Show
LAKESIDE - The East County Rose Society will host its 32nd annual fall Rose Show on Saturday, Oct. 3 from noon to 5 p.m. at Barona Resort & Casino Convention Center, 1932 Wildcat Canyon Road, Lakeside.
Admission is $5 and there is no charge to enter your roses. Public entries are welcome from 6 to 9:45 a.m.

Alpine Tree Town meeting
ALPINE — Do you love trees? Are you interested in promoting tree planting in Alpine? Would you like to be a part of Alpine’s Tree Town USA celebration in April 2010? Would you like to help establish tree programs for the elementary school children?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, then please mark your calendar and join other Alpine residents on Thursday, Sept. 17 at 5:30 p.m. at the Chamber Office 2707 Alpine Blvd.

DC trip meeting
ALPINE — On Thursday, Sept. 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Alpine Elementary School auditorium, a registration meeting and DVD presentation will be held by Holt Travel & Tours to share information with Joan Mac Queen 8th grade students and parents about next year’s annual educational East Coast tour. Fund raising opportunities will also be discussed.

Run for Mayor
ALPINE — File your intention to serve as Alpine’s community ambassador. All proceeds from all candidates campaign contributions will be invested in Alpine youth and our schools.
All “candidate filings” must be returned to the Alpine Chamber of
Commerce, 2707 Alpine Blvd., Alpine CA 91901 or faxed to 445-2871, by Sept. 18. The winner will be announced on Dec. 1, at the holiday breakfast to be held at Viejas DreamCatcher Lounge.

AFPD CPR class
ALPINE — The Alpine Fire Protection District will host a Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) class open to the public. The class is scheduled for Saturday Sept. 19 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the fire station at 1364 Tavern Road.

Deep pit barbecue
ALPINE — The Alpine Bert Fuller VFW Post 9578 is hosting its Annual Deep Pit Barbecue on Saturday, Sept. 19 at the post, 844 Tavern Road, Alpine.
The event is open to the public and features food, drinks and music from The Kemosabe Band performing between 2 and 5 p.m. Tickets for the event can be bought in advance for $10 and at the door for $12, and all proceeds from the event go to the Wounded Warriors Project.
