Alpine school board
reconsiders facility fee charges
Scrambling to find ways to ease the district’s
budget crisis, the Alpine Union School District board discussed
several options at the meeting held last Wednesday, Sept. 16.
The board also reconsidered one money-making plan that had
previously been approved.
Prison terms suspended for Alpine developers
Two Alpine
developers have received suspended prison terms on condition
they pay $100,000 each in restitution after pleading guilty to
grand theft. An Alpine woman got a suspended 1-year jail term,
and another developer is expected to receive a suspended prison
term.
Contract for Jacumba Burn Dump remediation
The San Diego County Board of Supervisors voted
5-0 Sept. 16 to authorize the advertisement for bid and
subsequent award of a contract to perform permanent remediation
measures for the former Jacumba I and II Burn Dump site.
Living history brings Mountain Men and Cowboys to today’s
visitors
Last weekend, the Laguna Mountain Volunteer Association
was able to step back in time and bring forward Cowboys,
Mountain Men, Farm Folk, local tribal members. A historical
ranger, Carl Brenner, told all who listened about the trials and
tribulations of living in the Laguna Mountains here in San Diego
County. The 23rd Annual LMVA Living History was in full swing,
beginning Saturday, Sept. 19, and continuing on Sunday, Sept.
20.
Lions offer roaring fun for Viejas Days
There’s a lot to “roar’ about at this year’s Viejas Days
Parade & Festival! Presented by the Alpine Stagecoach Lions with
the Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians and Alpine Albertsons as
signature sponsors, the annual parade day and time has changed
to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 4.
Drunk driver gets 16 months in Flinn Springs child
fatality
A drunk driver who killed an 8-year-old boy on Olde
Highway 80 in Flinn Springs has been sentenced to 16 months in
state prison. The parents have filed a wrongful death suit
against the 59-year-old driver who had no criminal record.
Major Use Permit approved for Lake Morena radio tower
The county’s Planning Commission voted to authorize the
construction and use of a 100-foot radio antenna tower on a
parcel owned by the Lake Morena Oak Shores Mutual Water Company.
Anderson runs for Alpine’s Honorary Mayor office
Carlette Anderson has thrown her hat in the ring as a
candidate for Alpine’s next Honorary Mayor.
