APG vacancy
ALPINE — The Alpine Planning Group is looking for an
interested individual to fill one open seat on the 15-member
board. The APG is responsible for advising the county on
issues of planning and land-use in the area.
General meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of every
month, 6:30 p.m. at the Alpine Community Center.
Interested individuals should attend the next APG meeting on
Thursday, Sept. 24, to present themselves as a candidate.

They will be honored on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at the 15th
Alpine Leadership and Public Service Awards ceremony at the
Viejas DreamCatcher Lounge.

Chili cook-off in October
ALPINE — The Kiwanis Club of Alpine is presenting its 8th
Annual Chili Cook off Festival and Annual Car Show on Oct.

The Event will be held at The Alpine Community Center from
11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The organizers of the Event are looking for Chili Cookers
and applications are being accepted now as there is limited
space.

4-H Amigos looking
for members
ALPINE — The Alpine Amigos 4H Club is looking for new
members from the ages of 5-19.
4H is a kid’s club that provides learning opportunities such
as horses, dogs, community service, archery, and judging.
4-H is looking for members and adult leaders. Come join us
the first Tuesday evening of the month at 7 p.m. If you have

Red Cross training
DESCANSO — American Red Cross will host Shelter Hands on
Training on Saturday, Sept. 5, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Camp
Oliver, 8761 Riverside Drive, Descanso.
Everyone is welcome. Learn how to open and run a Red Cross
Shelter. No previous experience necessary. You will learn
how the Red Cross decides to open shelters, how to set them
up, services provided, and when to close the shelter. Lunch
is included. Bring your family and friends.

72nd annual barbecue
DESCANSO — Our Lady of Light Catholic Church will hold its
72nd Annual Pit Barbecue on Sunday, Sept. 6, from 11 a.m. –
6 p.m. at the church, 9136 Riverside Dr.
Proceeds from the event benefit Our Lady of Light. Support

Fall tennis season
ALPINE — The Fall tennis season at the Alpine Community
Center (ACC) begins Sept. 8.
After school tennis classes for youth players begin weekday
afternoons. Morning and evening tennis clinics for adults
will also be offered specializing in doubles team
competition and game strategies.
In addition to several beginner classes, Rene will offer
advanced classes for teen athletes who wish to train for the
upcoming high school tennis season.

Tree Removal meeting
DESCANSO — The Resource Conservation District of Greater San
Diego County (RCDGSDC) has recently launched a Dead, Dying &
Diseased “D3” Tree Removal Program in the Descanso area and
has scheduled a Town Hall Meeting for Sept. 9 at the
Descanso Town Hall to help answer the community’s
questions/concerns.

Pop Warner
Opening Day
ALPINE –Alpine Pop Warner Football and Cheer will host its
home opening day celebration beginning at 9 a.m. Sept. 12,
at Granite Hills High School.
APW will have raffles, fundraising baskets and shirts and
hats for sale. Admission is free.
San Diego County Supervisor Dianne Jacob will be on hand to
officially cut the ribbon to APW’s new concession trailer.
20th Annual Sycuan Pow-Wow
EL CAJON — Sycuan Casino is hosting its 20th Annual Pow-Wow
on Sept. 11-13, at 5459 Sycuan Road El Cajon.
The weekend-long event features traditional dance
competition where participants vie for $125,000 in prize
money.
Arts & Crafts Booths are $250 and Food Booths are available
for$350 for the weekend. Information booths are free.
