Rummage Sale
     ALPINE —Alpine Academy is conducting a Rummage Sale on Saturday, April 17th, beginning at 8:00 a.m. until 12 noon. The purpose of the Rummage Sale is to help raise money for much needed school supplies/activities.

Income tax prep
     ALPINE — The Alpine Community Center is hosting a free income tax preparation class for senior citizens, low-income citizens and the disabled on Wednesdays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the center, 1830 Alpine Blvd.

Community Youth Choir (CYC) Spring Session!

Alpine Historical Society Pot Luck Luncheon April 18th
     ALPINE —The Alpine Historical Society will be having their quarterly pot luck luncheon on Sunday April 18th at 1pm at the Alpine Woman’s Club 2156 Alpine Blvd. This is free and open to the public. Come for lunch at 1pm or come at 2pm to hear David Lewis’ presentation about the history of the Julian cemetery. His book, “Last Known Address” is about the historic Julian cemetery, including maps and a data base. His interest in the cemetery started in 1999 when he was preparing to dig a grave for his cousin. He found that almost no monumentation existed within the cemetery to position gravesites. His surveying skills enabled him to place monuments and to create a detailed map of the cemetery. Canyonfolk Concert
     There is a great House Concert coming up on Sunday, April 18, from 4pm-8pm at the home of Cathryn Beeks. She will be hosting a few other musicians as well as her own Cathryn Beeks Ordeal! Suggested Donation is $20.00. She is in Spring Valley and it promises to be a really great show! Seating is limited so reserve your seats now. Registration for 2011 8th Grade Washington, D.C. Tour

Alpine Veterans Wall of Honor
     ALPINE —We’re kicking off the Alpine Veterans Wall of Honor fundraiser and you won’t want to miss it. The patriotic project takes flight on April 21, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. at Viejas’ Dream Catcher lounge. Come and honor our veterans and say “thank you” with your donation of $50.00 per person. Library scholarship
     DESCANSO — The Friends of the Descanso Library is awarding its second annual $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior who lives in Descanso 91916 zip code area.
     Applications may be picked up at the San Diego County Library, Descanso Branch, 9545 River Drive, Descanso, beginning March 8. Application deadline is April 24.

Luke Barbour Scholarship
     DESCANSO—Win a $1,000 scholarship and save your parents some money. . . The Luke Barbour Scholarship applications are now available inside Perkins Store and the Descanso Library. $1,000 in scholarship funds will be awarded to a graduating senior with a “B” average who is a resident of Descanso and/or the son/daughter of a Town Hall member.
      The competition will consist of a 500 word essay and oral interview. Deadline for the essay is April 2nd, and the interview date is April 18th. The scholarship is good for beauty school, vocational school, or any accredited junior college, college, or university.

Lemon Grove Rod and Gun Club to Host NRA Day
     ALPINE—Lemon Grove Rod and Gun Club will host a NRA Day Family Shooting Sports Camp at their facility on April 18th from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Alpine, California. This free event is open to the public for people over the age of six.
     This goal of this event is to introduce families to a variety of shooting sports and outdoor activities in a supervised and enjoyable environment.
     Lemon Grove Rod and Gun Club will also be introducing attendees to various NRA programs including Women On Target(r) and Boy Scout Merit Badge programs. NRA gun safety mascot Eddie Eagle will also be at the clubhouse and playground to help children learn about the Eddie Eagle GunSafe(r) Program.
     Each participant will receive a comprehensive gun safety lesson, free lunch, and bottled water. The first 200 children will also receive a free t-shirt. Please do not bring firearms or ammunition as these will be provided by Lemon Grove Rod and Gun Club.

Alpine Community Church Annual Rummage Sale
     ALPINE–Huge rummage sale, April 23 and 24 at 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Alpine Community Church, 2225 W. Victoria Drive. This is an annual event, and this year it’s larger than ever. 4th Annual Ultimate Music Challenge
     VIEJAS—It’s southern California’s biggest cover band smack-down, as Viejas Casino hosts the 4th annual Ultimate Music Challenge.
Thirty-nine of the area’s best cover bands will compete at Viejas Casino’s DreamCatcher Lounge every Sunday night from April 11th through June 20th from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Up to five bands will perform each Sunday, with the winning bands advancing to the Semifinals, then to the Championship on June 20th.
The winning cover band takes home $25,000, second place earns $10,000 and 3rd place pays $5,000. A panel of distinguished judges will score each band’s performance in the categories of Showmanship, Musical Ability and Audience Response.

Goals workshop
     ALPINE—Emotional Freedom Technique Introduction with Dr. Laura Hershey DC at the Recreation Room of the Alpine Mobile Home Estates at 2400 Alpine Blvd. Come and join us on April 24th from 9 a.m. to noon to dispel unhelpful emotions that are getting in the way of your personal accomplishments. EFT is easy to learn, and the process requires no courage.
     We use our fingertip to tap on the acupressure meridians of the face and hands while focusing on the unhelpful emotions. Procrastination, organization, food issues are all examples of worthy goals, so bring your own personal goal what ever it is. The cost is $15 cash or check. We really need some more volunteer’s to help out at our next Family Night which is on April 30th from 6-8pm. If you are able to volunteer we request that you are at the community center at 5pm and assist with clean up until about 9pm.

Free Legal Clinic April 30, 2010

Coyote Music Festival Lineup Announced
     El Cajon, CA – The Cuyamaca College Music Industry Studies program is proud to announce the second annual Coyote Music Festival on May 1, from 12-5pm on the grand lawn of Cuyamaca College.
     The free, all-ages event will present a wide range of musical styles including alternative rock, folk, indie, metalcore, and rap. This year the festival has expanded to two stages and will feature performances by Silent Lune, Christine Marie, Aghori, Yttrium, Steam Powered Giraffe, January Lights, Steve Stylez, Jester James, and Jesse Lamonaca and the Dime Novels. \ All of the artists are from the San Diego area, and they all play original music.
Food and beverages as well as CDs and merchandise from the artists available for purchase at the event.

The Descanso Garden Club’s annual plant sale
     DESCANSO—The Descanso Garden Club’s annual plant sale will take place at the Descanso Town Hall on Saturday, May 15th from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Offered for sale will be plants – both usual and unusual -- that thrive in Descanso and in nearby communities. plantings within the community.
     The Descanso Town Hall is located at 24536 Viejas Grade Road in Descanso. (From Highway 79, turn north onto Riverside Road at Descanso Junction. Turn west onto Viejas Grade Road in front of Perkins Store. The Town Hall is located about a quarter mile ahead and on the right.)
