ALPINE—The Alpine Woman’s Club Scholarship,
Preservation and Education Foundation will offer four $1,000
scholarships to deserving high school seniors who reside in
Alpine. Scholarship applications are available at the

Arts Fair
Descanso—The community of Descanso is proud to share
with you, your family and friends the wares of many local
artists and craftspeople at the Arts Fair on Sunday, April
25, 2010 from 11am to 3pm. The items that will be available
for purchase are: paintings, photography, jewelry, custom
apparel, jams and preserves, home and garden decor and more!
This will be a great opportunity to find a one-of-a-kind
Mother's Day gift for your loved one.
There will also be free light refreshments and a raffle to
benefit the Historic Descanso Town Hall.
Paul Nichols will be entertaining the Arts Fair visitors
throughout the event.
Mad Science!
ALPINE—Saturday, April 24, 2010 – 1:00-1:45 p.m. The
Alpine Branch of the San Diego County Library will host a
free fun and educational event for kids age 6-16: “Movie
Special F/X.” This Show will include mind-expanding
activities such as: 1) gravity-defying feats using
principles of air pressure, 2) lesson on polymers (plastics
and more), 3) a styrofoam-melting demonstration, and 4) the
result of a “dinosaur sneeze.” Mad Science is an
organization designed to get kids excited about Science!

The Alpine Woman's Club annual Plant sale
ALPINE—The Alpine Woman's Club presents their annual
Plant sale on: Saturday, April 24, at 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at
Alpine Womans Club, 2156 Alpine Blvd., The Alpine Tree Town
USA will also participate. This is the same day as the "I
Love a Clean Alpine". We invite you to come out...and enjoy

Readiness Workshop at Alpine Country Day School
ALPINE—Laurie Dotts, a teacher with over 30 years of
teaching experience, who is now a two year Kindergarten
teacher at Creekside Early Learning Center will be
presenting a Kindergarten readiness workshop. This will take
place at 1508 Midway Drive, in Alpine, on Wednesday April
28th, 6 p.m. — 7 p.m.
Do you have questions about your child’s readiness for
Kindergarten? Laurie will discuss Kindergarten expectations,
curriculum and give tips on how you can help prepare your
child for Kindergarten.
Alpine Country Day School can provide childcare during the

income tax preparation class for senior citizens, low-income

Sage and Songbirds Festival and Garden Tour
ALPINE—"The Hills Are Alive with Butterflies" at Viejas
Outlet Center
For the 13th Annual Sage & Songbirds Festival and
Garden Tour
Alpine's Biggest Annual Festival to be held May 1 & 2,
2010
Viejas Outlet Center is proud to host Alpine's biggest
festival, the 13th annual Sage & Songbirds Festival & Garden
Tour on Saturday, May 1 and Sunday, May 2.
The theme for this year's event is "The Hills Are Alive with
Butterflies." The free family-friendly event held in the
Viejas Outlet Center show court and will feature exciting,
live butterfly releases at noon both days; displays of live
hummingbirds and birds of prey; garden-related vendors;
plant sales; and art displays throughout the weekend. In
addition, ongoing educational programs will teach a variety
of habitat, gardening and wildlife topics, and guided tours
of the award-winning habitat gardens of Viejas Outlet Center
will be offered.
Festival hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 10
a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.
A tour of residential gardens and habitats coincides
with the festival, with proceeds benefiting CHIRP, a local
non-profit organization dedicated to preservation and
enjoyment of birds, butterflies and other creatures through
hands-on and interactive programs and gardens

Lakeside 45th Western Days Parade
East County Community Action Coalition will be in the
Lakeside parade this year. We are looking for both adult and
kid volunteers to come walk with us in the parade. Come have
fun with ECCAC and help stop the Sunrise Powerlink!

Looking for Volunteers
ALPINE—Eccac is looking for volunteers to man a booth
at the Alpine Earth Day event. Volunteers would be
responsible for providing information to individuals
interested in learning what the Sunrise Powerlink is about,
as well as collecting signatures and contact information for
those individuals that want to be informed about the
continuing progress of our fight, as well as collecting

Seeking Bonded Tree Removal Contractors
PINE VALLEY—Pine Valley Fire Safe Council (PVFSC) Seeks
Licensed, Bonded Tree Removal Contractors The PVFSC has
plans to remove some 50+ dead & dying trees in the Pine
Valley area using funding provided by a federal grant.
Interested tree contractors should contact Dick Dupree at

project. All tree removal work will be completed by July 30,
2010.

Library scholarship
DESCANSO — The Friends of the Descanso Library is
awarding its second annual $1,000 scholarship to a
graduating senior who lives in Descanso 91916 zip code area.
Applications may be picked up at the San Diego County
Library, Descanso Branch, 9545 River Drive, Descanso,
beginning March 8. Application deadline is April 24.
Luke Barbour Scholarship
DESCANSO—Win a $1,000 scholarship and save your parents
some money. . . The Luke Barbour Scholarship applications
are now available inside Perkins Store and the Descanso
Library. $1,000 in scholarship funds will be awarded to a
graduating senior with a “B” average who is a resident of
Descanso and/or the son/daughter of a Town Hall member.
The competition will consist of a 500 word essay and
oral interview. Deadline for the essay is April 2nd, and the
interview date is April 18th. The scholarship is good for
beauty school, vocational school, or any accredited junior
college, college, or university.

Alpine Community Church Annual Rummage Sale
ALPINE–Huge rummage sale, April 23 and 24 at 8 a.m. to

4th Annual Ultimate Music Challenge
VIEJAS—It’s southern California’s biggest cover band
smack-down, as Viejas Casino hosts the 4th annual Ultimate
Music Challenge.
Thirty-nine of the area’s best cover bands will compete
at Viejas Casino’s DreamCatcher Lounge every Sunday night
from April 11th through June 20th from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Up to five bands will perform each Sunday, with the
winning bands advancing to the Semifinals, then to the
Championship on June 20th.
The winning cover band takes home $25,000, second place
earns $10,000 and 3rd place pays $5,000. A panel of
distinguished judges will score each band’s performance in
the categories of Showmanship, Musical Ability and Audience
Response.

Goals workshop
ALPINE—Emotional Freedom Technique Introduction with
Dr. Laura Hershey DC at the Recreation Room of the Alpine
