group discusses SRPL impacts
The Sunrise Powerlink (SRPL) was a hot
topic Jan. 29, at Dianne Jacob’s Alpine Revitalization Steering
Committee meeting. At these meetings, held twice each year,
community leaders keep the county supervisor up-do-date on
important local issues and work with county staff to implement
local visions and plans.
Bond measure explored for Alpine schools
Faced with continuing state
budget cuts for education, the Alpine Union School District is
exploring the possibility of placing an $11 million general
obligation bond measure on the ballot. The proposed measure
would authorize additional projects without increasing taxes by
extending a current Alpine schools bond assessment on property
tax bills for another 25 years.
Supervisors discuss state budget impact on county
The official San Diego County Board of
Supervisors action on Jan. 26 was to receive the Urban Counties
Caucus study “State Budget Education Project” for board
discussion. The discussion of the study on state underfunding of
county-operated programs also warned county residents that the
2010-11 budget under preparation by county staff may reflect
those shortfalls.

Alpine Kiwanians honor local Law Enforcement agencies
Despite the rain last Saturday morning, Feb. 6, there
was a packed house at the Alpine Kiwanis breakfast meeting.
Participants were there to celebrate local law enforcement
agencies and some very special people. This is an annual event
that is chaired by Kiwanis member, Dave Truax.

directors of the Alpine Mountain Empire Chamber of Commerce
during an evening of networking in Alpine.
Alpine duo freed after case dismissed
Two men who were stopped by sheriff’s deputies in Alpine
after methamphetamine was found in the air bag compartment of a
car have been released from jail after a judge dismissed their
case due to an unlawful search.
Snoozing sunday driver who killed passenger gets two years
A drunk driver who had asked his passenger to “wake him
up” should he fall asleep during a drive near Jacumba was
sentenced Feb. 1 to two years in state prison for vehicular
manslaughter.
Sacred Rock gets Plan-It Green Award
It’s a “go green” world these days, even in places
where you might not expect it. Several years ago, the owners of
Sacred Rocks Reserve and RV Park, located in Boulevard, were
recently recognized by ARVC (National Association of RV Parks &
Campgrounds) who awarded the RV Park the “Plan-it Green Award”
for 2009.
February is American Heart Month
Each year the President proclaims February to be
American Hearth Month. Would you know how to respond if your
child stopped breathing or someone you love had a heart attack?
As parents we all want the very best for our children. However
when it comes to knowing what to do if our child stops
breathing, we panic and call 911.
