Proposed Wright’s Field development resurfaces  
     The future of a portion of Wright’s Field is once again up in the air after a heated discussion between a developer and an Alpine Planning Group member at the APG meeting held Thursday, Jan. 28.  

Local groups file federal lawsuit against SRPL
     A lawsuit was filed on Tuesday, Feb. 16 to stop construction of San Diego Gas and Electric’s “Sunrise Powerlink” transmission line through southern Imperial and San Diego counties. The lawsuit was filed in the Federal Eastern District Court in Sacramento.
 

GUHSD votes to move forward with Helix hearing
     Ongoing concerns about money, and funding were virtually set aside at the Feb. 11 Grossmont Union High School District board meeting to address the current concerns at Helix Charter School.

Man convicted of setting fire to woman and trailer in Japatul  
A jury deliberated only three hours Feb. 8 before finding Todd Andrew Wimler guilty of attempted murder and arson when he set his girlfriend and his own mobile home on fire in December 2008 in the rural Back Country.

Alpine man sentenced to 52 years for two murders in El Cajon
Alpine resident Anthony James Miller was sentenced Feb. 9 to 52 years to life in prison for his two murder convictions in the deaths of a liquor store co-owner and an employee who were shot to death in 2006 in a robbery.

Recent storms are benefit for region
The January storms created more benefit than damage for San Diego County’s agricultural industries.

RCD and Fire Safe Councils to provide trees for residents
With the loss of thousands of oak trees being killed by the Golden Spotted Oak Borer (GSOB) in the Descanso area, the Resource Conservation District of Greater San Diego County (RCD) and Fire Safe Council of San Diego County (FSCSDC) are hosting two Community Tree Planting Days for the residents of Descanso.
