     ALPINE — Calling all crafters, artists, and non-profit organizations. The 13th Annual Alpine Sage and Songbirds Festival for May 1-2, is now accepting applications for booths at the Viejas Outlet Center.
     Thousands attend this event yearly from all over the southwest — this is a great opportunity to showcase your product.

Community chipping day
     ALPINE — Greater Alpine Fire Safe Council will host a Community Chipping Day on Saturday, Jan. 30, at 5221 Willows Road from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

     If you don’t have anything to chip, please consider helping out as a registration volunteer.

Historical Society open
     ALPINE — The Alpine Historical Society Museum will be open to the public on Saturday, Jan. 30 and Sunday, Jan. 31 from 2 to 4 p.m.
     This is a great opportunity to tour two historic homes plus an old school house. Learn all about Alpine’s history from knowledgeable docents.
     The museum is located at 2116 Tavern Road. Just follow the signs to the Museum. For further information please call Carol Morrison at 445-2544.

Scholarships available
     ALPINE — The California Federation of Republican Women, Southern Division, Charlotte Mousel Scholarship is awarded to assist graduating high school seniors who demonstrate their ability to think constructively on matters affecting our government.
     Awards in the amount of $1,200 (first place) and $800 (second place) will be based on the following: Scholastic achievement, school activities, community involvement, political activities, general appearance of the application, and construction thought demonstrated in an essay.
     A typewritten essay, not to exceed 1,000 words, with your thoughts on the topic: "Why is the U.S. Constitution unique in human history, and why should each U.S. citizen value its contents?" should be submitted together with the appropriate forms to: Marilyn Kruso, President, Mt. The content of your essay should reflect your knowledge of the Constitution, and what the Constitution means to you.
     Please call either of the numbers above to request an application form. Completed applications for the Charlotte Mousel Scholarship must be received no later than Feb. 1, 2010.

E-Waste collection
     EL CAJON — The Steele Canyon High School Class of 2013 is hosting an e-waste collection drive on Saturday, Jan. 23, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the campus of Steele Canyon High School. Class members want to recycle all of your unwanted electronics, especially cell phones, TVs, computers and monitors, free of charge. The material collected at this event will raise money for the Class of 2013.
     In addition to accepting cell phones, computers, monitors and televisions, mice, keyboards, record players, VCR’s, video tapes, CD’s, DVD’s, stereo equipment, ink and toner cartridges, video game equipment––any other kind of electronic material will be accepted. Not accepted: All types of lighting, household batteries, car batteries, paint, mercury containing devices, appliances, universal waste, and non-electronic waste.
     If you are a business looking to contribute material to this event but cannot at the listed times, please contact our Office Receptionist to see if a route is scheduled in your area for ‘free’ pickup!

Cox heroes scholarships
     SAN DIEGO — Cox Heroes scholarships, in denominations of $2,500 or $10,000, are available for San Diego County adults, military dependents and high school seniors who dream of furthering their education.
