Eleanor Ramrath Garner is coming to Alpine
ALPINE- Saturday, June 5 at 1 p.m., Eleanor Ramrath
Garner, who is the author of award winning young adult
memoir Eleanor's Story: An American Girl in Hitler's Germany
will be at the Alpine Library.
This book (available for check-out at the Alpine
Library, while supplies last!) is the compelling story of an
American teenager caught up in the daily struggles of
surviving World War II in Berlin. Readers will learn what it
was like to live under a totalitarian regime without freedom
of speech and the press, where fear ruled every aspect of
life. The story takes us through bombings, evacuations, the
final battle for Berlin, and the terrors of Soviet
occupation. Above all the reader will learn the sustaining
values of love and family, the gift of friendship, the
celebration of traditions in the midst of a collapsing
world, and the realization that even in the darkest times
the heart can still dance, that hope never really dies.
Eleanor will speak about her experiences writing the
book, and copies will be available for book-signing. The
Alpine Friends of the Library Association (ALFA) will
provide refreshments.

Collections for Rady's Children's Hospital
ALPINE - Alpine residents have continued to respond to
requests for soaps and shampoo for the Ronald McDonald
house. They now have plenty of soap and shampoo. They could
use toothbrushes, men's and woman's white socks and
hairbrushes, and under garments. Ronald McDonald House, next
to the Rady's Children's Hospital is always in need of these
donations. Rady's is also collecting pull-tabs from soda and
beer cans, to be recycled for money.

Kiwanis began an effort last year, collecting and
donating these items to Ronald McDonald House and they are
very happy with Alpine's collection efforts. Items can be
bagged and dropped off at The Alpine Sun office.
