APG vacancy
ALPINE — The Alpine Planning Group is looking for an interested individual to fill one open seat on the 15-member board.
The APG is responsible for advising the county on issues of planning and land-use in the area. General meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of every month, 6:30 p.m. at the Alpine Community Center.
Interested individuals should attend the next APG meeting on Thursday, March 25, to present themselves as a candidate. For more information please contact APG chairman Greg Fox at GregRFoxJr@aol.com.

Alpine Aglow
ALPINE—Alpine Aglow welcomes Judy Ross on March 26, 2010, Cloud Nine Worship Center of Spring Valley, CA is known for teaching the gospel through life experience. Easter Egg Hunt in Campo

Easter Egg Geo-Caching
BOULEVARD—Sacred Rocks Reserve and RV Park, located in the mountains just 60 miles east of San Diego, is offering a Geo-Caching Easter Egg Treasure Hunt for families of all ages on Saturday, March 27, 2010 from 10 am to 4 pm. At 9 am, a refresher GPS Navigation course will also be offered. The "Easter Egg" Treasure Hunt on the 163 acre property will give participants a chance to enjoy the early spring bloom with their families while seeking six geo-caches using their own GPS receiver. (Car GPS receivers will not work). Prizes will be given. A hotdog roast and campfire will be included at the conclusion of the event at approximately 5 pm. Cost is $8 per person and includes use of the park's facilities for the day. A special 25% discount is being offered for military families for tent and RV camping site fees that weekend. Good Friday Service
ALPINE—A 6:00pm.Good Friday Service will be conducted by Grace Fellowship Presbyterian Church at their "Barn" meeting place--2301 South Grade Road. The brief service will consist of hymns and Scripture readings on the suffering of Christ. The question of who killed Jesus and why call it "good " Friday will also be addressed. For more information

ALFA news: Help us Build a New Library
ALPINE — March Madness begins this month, and the bookstore has a great selection of sports books –All paperback novels will be 1/2 off from 3/10 – 3/14; all history books will be 1/2 off from 3/17 – 3/21; and all religious books 1/2 off from 3/24 – 3/28. Our end of the month 1/2 off sale is 3/27 and 28. All profits go to the Library fund. Shop at 2554 Alpine Blvd. Open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday to Sunday.

Archery in Alpine
ALPINE—Do you enjoy archery? The Lemon Grove Rod and Gun Club hosts 28 3D targets every 2nd Saturday of the month, beginning at 7 a.m. The cost to participate is $15 for adults, $10 for children 11-17. Children under $10 are free. For more information, please contact Mark Jungers at 318-2112.

Income tax prep
ALPINE — The Alpine Community Center is hosting a free income tax preparation class for senior citizens, low-income citizens and the disabled on Wednesdays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the center, 1830 Alpine Blvd.

Bunco
ALPINE—The Alpine Lions Club is hosting a "Bunco" event on Friday March 26, 2010 6pm at the Alpine Woman's Club located at 2156 Alpine Blvd. to benefit longtime resident Alice Villa.
Alice is a Charter Member of the Alpine Lions Club and has received the honor of Lion of the Year several times and in 2002 Lion of the Decade. In 2005 she was named Honorary Mayor of Alpine. She was a familiar face for 36 years at the Alpine Pharmacy. Alot of people know Alice, she's a quiet person who has gives alot to the community. Alice has Thrombocytopenia, an immune deficiency disorder. Thrombocytopeniacan cause abnormal bleeding.

The Alpine Woman's Club annual Plant sale
ALPINE—The Alpine Woman's Club presents their annual Plant sale on: Saturday, April 24, at 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Alpine Womans Club, 2156 Alpine Blvd.,
The Alpine Tree Town USA will also participate. This is the same day as the "I Love a Clean Alpine". We invite you to come out...and enjoy a day with your fellow community members in beautifying Alpine.

ACC tennis
ALPINE — Spring into action with tennis classes offered at the ACC beginning in March.
ACC teaching pro, Rene Toscano will provide a large variety of classes fitting all age groups and player ability levels. After school youth classes, as well as adult morning and evening classes will headline a majority of classes.
High School student athletes are encouraged to take advantage of specialized training classes intended to prepare players to improve tennis skills and game strategies necessary to compete at a higher level.

Library scholarship
DESCANSO — The Friends of the Descanso Library is awarding its second annual $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior who lives in Descanso 91916 zip code area.
Applications may be picked up at the San Diego County Library, Descanso Branch, 9545 River Drive, Descanso, beginning March 8. Application deadline is April 24.

Luke Barbour Scholarship
DESCANSO—Win a $1,000 scholarship and save your parents some money. . . The Luke Barbour Scholarship applications are now available inside Perkins Store and the Descanso Library. $1,000 in scholarship funds will be awarded to a graduating senior with a “B” average who is a resident of Descanso and/or the son/daughter of a Town Hall member.
The competition will consist of a 500 word essay and oral interview. Deadline for the essay is April 2nd, and the interview date is April 18th. The scholarship is good for beauty school, vocational school, or any accredited junior college, college, or university.

ALFA Sponsors an Evening with Author Richard Carrico
ALPINE—On Thursday, March25th at 6:30 PM at the Alpine Library, Richard Carrico will be speaking about his book “Strangers in a Stolen Land”. After the talk there will be a book signing and refreshments will be served.
Richard Carrico is a principal in the firm Recuerdos Research and a lecturer in the Department of American Indian Studies at San Diego State University and at Cuyamaca Community College. He has an M. A. in History from the University of San Diego and B. A. degrees in History and Anthropology from San Diego State University.
While at SDSU, Richard served as the field director for large-scale archaeological excavations at the Bancroft Ranch House in Spring Valley and the Presidio of San Diego above Old Town. He resides in Ramona, California with his wife where he raises wine grapes and makes wine under the Rockhill Vineyard label.

Alpine Community Church Annual Rummage Sale
ALPINE–Huge rummage sale, April 23 and 24 at 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Alpine Community Church, 2225 W. Victoria Drive. This is an annual event, and this year it’s larger than ever.
