Alpine Woman’s Club membership drive
     ALPINE — The Alpine Woman’s Club was established in 1914 and was originally known as the Ladies Aid Society. This nostalgic club has met every month for the past 96 years.
     Membership has always been by invitation only. However this year, for the first time in the club’s history, they are opening membership to women who live in Alpine and the surrounding areas including El Cajon, Flynn Springs, Blossom Valley, Crest, Descanso, Pine Valley, Boulevard, Lake Moreno, Campo, etc. who are interested in the preservation of the historic Town Hall as well as the scholarship program for local students.
     They meet on the third Tuesday of every month at 12 p.m. at the Town Hall 2156 Alpine Blvd. If you are interested in attending their complimentary luncheon please call Barbara Hendrix at 659-0423, to reserve your place. Seating is limited.

French exchange students
     ALPINE — Visit France this summer without leaving home by hosting a French exchange student from July 5 to 25.
     Learn about another culture and language without leaving home. Broaden your children’s perspectives on the world. See your community through the eyes of someone new.
     Looking for families to open their hearts and homes to these students. During the three weeks, the students will participate in scheduled excursions. Your part includes providing a bed to sleep, food to eat and a place in your family for three weeks.

Rib dinners in Campo
     CAMPO — This Friday, March 5, the Campo VFW will begin it’s famous Rib dinners. Cost is $8, plus desserts. The VFW is located on Sheridan Road in Campo.
     The VFW’s Easter Egg Hunt and Bicycle rodeo will be held on March 27. For more information call 478-9212.

Library scholarship
     DESCANSO — The Friends of the Descanso Library is awarding its second annual $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior who lives in Descanso 91916 zip code area.
     Applications may be picked up at the San Diego County Library, Descanso Branch, 9545 River Drive, Descanso, beginning March 8. Application deadline is April 24.

Albertsons community fair
    ALPINE — There’s a new date for Albertsons 3rd Annual Community Fair in Alpine! Originally planned for Feb. 20, an incoming heavy rain storm prompted rescheduling of the free day of activities and attractions to Saturday, March 13.
     Albertsons and the Alpine Mountain Empire Chamber of Commerce sponsor the fun from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Alpine Albertsons parking lot at 2955 Alpine Blvd.
     It’s a great opportunity for people, businesses and organizations to get to know what is available in Alpine and the Mountain Empire.

Community sale
     ALPINE — Christ the King Episcopal Church is hosting its annual community sale on Saturday, March 20, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Rain or shine.
     Christ the King Episcopal Church is located at 1460 Midway Drive, Alpine. Spaces are $10 and must be reserved in advance, call 723-0309 or visit www.ChristTheKingAlpine.org.

ALFA news
     ALPINE — March Madness begins this month, and the bookstore has a great selection of sports books – all will be 1/2 off the week of 3/3 – 3/7. All paperback novels will be 1/2 off from 3/10 – 3/14; all history books will be 1/2 off from 3/17 – 3/21; and all religious books 1/2 off from 3/24 – 3/28. Our end of the month 1/2 off sale is 3/27 and 28.   All profits go to the Library fund.
     Shop at 2554 Alpine Blvd. Open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday to Sunday.

Income tax prep
     ALPINE — The Alpine Community Center is hosting a free income tax preparation class for senior citizens, low-income citizens and the disabled on Wednesdays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the center, 1830 Alpine Blvd.

ACC tennis
     ALPINE — Spring into action with tennis classes offered at the ACC beginning in March.
     ACC teaching pro, Rene Toscano will provide a large   variety of classes fitting all age groups and player ability levels. After school youth classes, as well as adult morning and evening classes will headline a majority of classes.
     High School student athletes are encouraged to take advantage of specialized training classes intended to prepare players to improve tennis skills and game strategies necessary to compete at a higher level.

Craft show
     ALPINE — Alpine Country Gifts and Crafts show will be presenting its 16th annual Spring “Home Town Event” Craft Show.
     Hours are March 4, Thursday, from 4 to 7 p.m., March 5 and 6, Friday and Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and March 7, Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Historic Alpine Women’s Club 2156 Alpine Blvd.
     Thirty juried crafters with unbelievable top quality crafts will be stocking daily.

Goals workshop
     ALPINE — A workshop will be held Saturday, March 6 at noon to help residents reach their personal goals using the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), taught by Dr. Laura Hershey, DC.
     The event will be held in the recreation room of the Alpine Mobile Home Estates, 2400 Alpine Blvd. at 9 a.m. Cost is $15 per person.
     Participants will learn to dispel unhelpful emotions that are getting in the way of your personal accomplishments. EFT is easy to learn, and the process requires no courage. We use our fingertip to tap on the acupressure meridians of the face and hands while focusing on the unhelpful emotion.

Grand opening
     ALPINE — The Alpine Community Centers’ “Thrifty Threads” Resale Store has moved into a new location, The Old FireHouse.
     Come join the grand opening event at 1834 Alpine Blvd. on March 6, at 10:30 a.m. Refreshments will be served.

Parent workshop
     ALPINE — Cara Day-McKellar, Mother/ Author/ Educator/ Life Coach, shares her acclaimed parenting philosophy and strategies during a “Happy Kids” Parenting Workshop, held Saturday, March 20, 2010, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Lander Hall, Kensington Community Church, 4773 Marlborough Drive, San Diego.
