Food, Fun, and Fundraising, Oh My!
By Rose Bledsoe
For The Alpine Sun
On May 15th at Lions Tigers and
Bears in Japatul, many Alpine residents went Wild in the
Country. Anyone with a ticket to this event enjoyed a delectable
meal from Phil’s BBQ, live entertainment, and a chance to visit
with all the beautiful beasts that Lions Tigers and Bears
supports. The event went on from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, with a VIP
reception two hours before the beginning of the event.
Entertainment was everywhere at this awesome event. Splash!
Animals, a live-art experience dedicated to raising funds and
awareness for endangered animals, created beautiful and colorful
paintings right in front of their audience, to the beat of
cheerful tropical music.
They created three paintings, each of a different animal, one of
a tiger, one of a bear, and the last of a cheetah. Once painted,
these unique works of art were auctioned off, raising a whopping
$2,000 all by themselves.
A live band, The Silverado bluegrass band, performed, and an
auctioneer helped manage the live auctions. Silent auctions went
on throughout the day.
Over 450 people showed up for the event. The facility costs
$20,000 to run each month, and Bobbi Brink of Lions Tigers and
Bears relies on fundraisers to keep the facility up and running.
As this is the only wild cat rescue in San Diego, it’s very
important that they stay open, because without them, the cats
would have nowhere to go.
They would have to endure a long journey, and they might be
split apart from their families. To keep a roof over the cats’
heads and food on their plates, Lions Tigers and Bears needs
your help.

list can be found on the website.
