Fairies, Fairies, Everywhere

Do you believe in fairies? Well there was some conclusive proof of their existence at Summer’s Past Farms on Saturday the fifth. Fairies of all ages, shapes and sizes came to visit the Fairy Festival, if only to smell the flowers and show off their wings. When the bell rang at 10:00, all fairy glamour was thrown away and the fairies showed themselves, wings and all.
A few people brought in wee gardens for judging. These gardens are whimsical miniature models straight from the imagination. Lore behind these small gardens says that they were made for the small pixies to live in.Doing this was said to make the pixies happy, and therefore gain favor so the pixies would not break things in mischief. Whatever their function, they are cute, pretty, and still created today, in the 21st century.
The wee gardens were judged for different categories based on age. For the 9 and under category, the winners were Daisy Troop #6385 in first place, Morgan and Joelle in second place, and Apple in third place. For the 10-16 category, Shannon came in first place, Amanda B. came in second place, and Amanda Z. came in third. For the 17 and up category, Kim came in first place, Lucy came in second place, and Patti came in third place.
For those fairies who went to great lengths to dress just right, there was a fairy fashion parade. Many fairies, from the flowery garden fairies to the mischievous pixies and even concerned little hobs, participated in the parade, showing off their colorful spring and summer attire.
There were a few vendors at the Fairy Festival. In addition to the small coffee and drinks shop that is regularly open at Summer’s Past, there were wreaths vendors for those fairies who wanted to add a little more glitz to their outfits. For fairies and their families, a $5 plate of fairy cookies with fairy dust frosting and fairy nectar punch was available. Grass space was open and visitors brought their blankets and picnic baskets to enjoy the day.
