The ribbon cutting for the new Pine Valley Sheriff’s Substation was on Friday, June 6th, welcoming Sheriff Gore, and Supervisor Dianne Jacob.
Last year, County Supervisors unanimously voted to approve building the new $3.3 million  sheriff’s substation in Pine Valley just east of the Pine Valley County Park.  This new station has long been a top priority for the community, and the building has added so much to the community.

I want to tell everyone about a really wonderful man, who, when I first met him seemed like a dynamo is gone. Back when I was attending Queen of Angels Catholic Church here in Alpine, and we, my family and I, were very involved, we had the pleasure of meeting Jim Archer.  Jim was the handsome man with the white hair and glasses who could have been a movie star, standing next to his wife who could have also been a movie star.

The Alpine Teachers' Strike is over according to an e-mail sent out by Superintendent Tom Pelligrino:

The District and teacher leaders worked into the early morning on Tuesday, February 25 and reached an agreement that both parties can stand behind.  The strike has ended!  We know that your child will be extremely happy to see our Alpine teachers back.  We are too!  We are committed to maintaining the high level of education that you have grown to expect and deserve.  Teachers will be back in the classroom Tuesday.

Have you ever heard of iHookah?  It looks like one is trying to make its way into Alpine.  In the next Design and Review board meeting, iHooka is asking for signage approval, and has their location listed at 2963 Alpine Blvd.  This location is at the Albertsons Shopping Center, where Yogurt Jubilee was.

In the August issue of the Kiwanis magazine, our Alpine Kiwinis were featured in the story, ‘A Kiwnis kind of town: Alpine CA, a Small California Community with a Big Kiwanis Heart’.  In the story, the Alpine Kiwanis are declared a ‘force of nature unto themselves’.

This weekend nine more plaques were added to the Veteran’s Wall of Honor to commemorate and remember the value and service that was honorably given for our country.  The new names include: Claude Wilkens, John Schuttenheim, , Mabel Stenstrom, Pete Peters, Raymond Contrares, Robert Taylor, Steve Renne and Theodore Bazdorf.
As the Pledge of Allegence began, hats were removed, hearts were covered and the pledge was solemnly recited by all, looking at the flag with respect.
