Hey Getting Harder...When is the last time you took a 60% (or even a 30%) cut in your salary to work harder & provide more services to an ever-growing number of "consumers?" You're right...this is not market competition. And these teachers are not providing some tangible product to their clientele. This is a captive group of workers who have no ability to impact the money they make except in a collective manner. Wouldn't it be great if teachers could negotiate on their own behalf and the best & most effective could be compensated according to their amazing ability? But they can't. And the districts are happy that they can't because they can hold all teachers hostage & pay everyone less (except themselves of course) & continue to claim poverty. I'm very sorry that your children will be impacted. I'm not a teacher in Alpine and I don't have kids that go there, and so it doesn't impact me directly. I don't doubt a strike will impact your children in a negative way. It's a shame that will happen to them or anyone's children. But lets also not forget the children of the teachers' who will have less food, less clothes, fewer necessities, and lower family incomes if they just sit by and take it because that is what teachers are supposed to do. We all have financial responsibilities & mouths to feed...including teachers.
