This strike is not about "more, better"- it's about trying to survive in the face of a 30% pay cut. How many people outside of education could take a 30% drop in pay and still be able to meet their needs? Teachers give continually far above and beyond what most people realize. The average teachers works a 60 hour work week teaching, planning, grading, assessing, attending meetings, helping students before and after school, etc. Teachers spend hundreds of their own dollars buying classroom supplies, curriculum, and even food for students who come to school hungry. Perhaps you should try teaching for an entire day in a classroom with 34 students of different abilities, behaviors, and personalities and try to teach them something. Your appreciation and respect would increase and you would see the incredible heroes our teachers are. Alpine teachers deserve our support and help!
