Parade reaches 59 year marker

The Western Days parade will be Saturday, April 27, in Lakeside.

Western Days, always held during the annual Lakeside Rodeo, always includes the Lakeside Chamber of Commerce’s Western Days Parade. This year the parade is Saturday, April 27 beginning at 9:35 a.m. starting on Woodside Avenue marching through historic downtown Lakeside down Maine Avenue. Touted as one of the largest equestrian parades in the nation, the 2024 theme is “Lakeside, a great small town.” This hometown parade features local schools, businesses, and organizations, all representing Lakeside and the western way of life.

Lakeside Chamber of Commerce CEO/President Kathy Kassel said the Western Days Parade is celebrating its 59th anniversary this year.

“This year’s parade is coming along, we still have entries coming in,” she said. “This has been going on for 59 years. It started a year after the first rodeo. This year, our Grand Marshall is Tommy LaMadrid who has lived in Lakeside his whole life and his family owned the blacksmith in town.”

The Lakeside Chamber held a mixer, hosted by the Lakeside Historical Society and the Maine Avenue Revitalization Association on April 18, at the Historical Society as part of Western Days.
